My only (new) input here is that I’d clone out the leaves in the bottom left since they’re a little bright so I feel my attention drawn to them occasionally.
I love the image.
I was thinking of something like this (mainly composition-wise). I don’t know if it works.
Although I liked your abstract balloon image, I feel this one isn’t quite working for me.
The overlap of the balloons on the left, and their proximity to the centre balloon leaves me with an unbalanced feeling. I wonder if a balloon symmetrically across from the right-hand side one would have been better.
Hi Kent,
Sorry, I completely forgot to reply! Thank you for your critique. I ended up brightening up the driver’s cab of the tram to try and highlight him a little bit more. Hopefully I didn’t overdo it. I’m still not really sure if I like the image, or my edit of it, unfortunately. I’ll come back to it later when I have fresh eyes, I suppose.
Thanks again.
John
Well, it’s gone midnight and everything is blurring into one so I think I’ll stop now 🙂
I’ve tried to fix the whites a little and add a little bit more contrast to the image. Taking on board what Kent said, I tried to adjust the crop a little, and brighten up the driver’s area, to draw more attention to him, but I think I failed in that respect.
I think perhaps the lines of the track leading into the distance might distract from the driver a little. Perhaps I should crop horizontally instead…
Any feedback/further suggestions welcome 🙂
Thanks again.
Hi Dahlia,
Thanks for your reply. I’ll try that this evening.
I don’t have much to say that hasn’t already been said, but I’d probably clone out the black dot in the left middle of the image. For some reason I find it rather distracting now that I’ve seen it.
I really do like the old contrast of old and new in this image, and the detail of the sacks on the donkeys’ backs. The only thing that bugs me is the proximity of the railing pillar to the statue’s shoulder. It’s not a big thing though 🙂

Thanks 🙂
Welcome 🙂
Hi Jasenka
I have a Canon EOS 55 (I think it’s an Elan IIe to most of the world). I mainly bought this one because it was a cheap 2,700 yen including postage (£18.78/US$24.28/€20.88) and secondly because I have a Canon Kiss X7i (aka 700D or Rebel T5i) DSLR with a nice EF 50mm F1.8 lens which I can happily mount to the SLR body.
My main motivation for trying film was the colours it brings, and to try and improve my composition. With my DSLR I’m happy to blow through a dozen shots of one thing and just pick the one that works best, but I want to get better at “getting it right in camera” and not taking a billion shots. I figured that an SLR would force me to either slow down, or waste film. It has worked a little so far; I am putting more thought into things.
I will probably ask many as time goes on 🙂
I’ve recently started – I’ve done a couple of batches of Fuji Acros Neopan 100 so far. I’d also like to get colour chemicals at some point, but I don’t know when I can be bothered. Part of my motivation for developing B&W is that the local camera shop has to send it away and it takes 2 weeks. Depending on the shop I go to, I can get colour developed within 1-3 hours. I’d still like to do it myself, but I’m not so motivated to.
I like it 🙂 Thank you for your help
I’ve removed the twig as per your suggestion and it certainly is less distracting. I think I might like the tighter crop in the colour photo more, but I also really like the grain of the wood. Hmm.
Hi David,
I’ve got a CanoScan 9000F Mark II. I used the “advanced” mode of ScanGear, auto settings all off or “None”, high quality “ON”, 2400dpi. data format PNG, large image scans enabled.
The title was more a description of the building, but I guess I shouldn’t have named the photo that since it isn’t clear from the image.
Thank you for your input.
I tried colour 🙂
@peterw Thank you for your reply. I kind of see your point: I did try a tighter crop before, but it felt a little bit claustrophobic t0 me. Perhaps you would be willing to share what kind of crop you had in mind?
If this image isn’t very interesting, do you see a more interesting potential shot from the other pictures of the building I provided? This is pretty much the most interesting building I’ve found in my city so far. I really wish I had a car sometimes 🙂
I might try taking my DSLR out (or some colour film) to see if I can get a colour shot, to see if it makes it pop a little more.
@dahliaambrose Thank you for your comments. I’ll try that when I get home from work 🙂 -
