Thanks @Tobie … it is hard to believe nature painted them this way, isn’t it? It was my first time seeing these beautiful ducks in the wild when they showed up here. At first I was thrilled to get a photo from far off across the pond but eventually they started coming right up onto my shore within a few yards and I couldn’t believe my fortune to be able to get some better pictures. Since this pair arrived, there have been a few more males and another female with her mate that have also dropped by from time to time. I’m really hoping that baby Wood Ducks are in my future shooting. π
Thanks @Tobiepsg …yes, they are quite used to people and don’t get alarmed if you come close. They keep an eye on you, but they have learned to trust in the benign interest of people…and also that they might get a fish once in awhile, if they’re lucky. π
You deserve the recognition Karen … @karamen … your work is lovely and keeps on getting better. …like this site π
OK…well…I don’t know why…but I was going to see if I could try uploading it a different way…but now I don’t see an “edit” option with that post.
This is what I mean be being frustrated here. Thanks @tersha . the dark greenish part is about 12 inches long and about 4 inches wide at the widest part. The plant it grows on gets very tall…like a tree. This one is probably 10 feet tall with huge leaves and we have several of them in a group. The regular Bird of Paradise plants have orange flowers and are much smaller.
Can you tell me if you see the formatting codes around the photo? I uploaded this as a test of the new site and though I did what I used to do to get photos uploaded here from my Picasa online albums, it seems that it’s handling them differently and the photo is in the middle of the code for some reason.
Hi @photoRob ….I just moved to Dunedin FL a few months ago from Upstate NY….really loving the photo ops this new area has to offer. You’ll love the Light Stalking gang …welcome. π
Thanks Toad! I posted a link to my online album with 50 photos of these wonderful cars…this is just a sample. They really were fun …and you’re right…lots of character and you can imagine all the stories they could tell. π
Thanks @tersha … you wouldn’t believe the number of people who told me about the VW they once owned…with the fondest of memories…when I posted these photos on Facebook. Seems just about everyone once owned one. π Lots of love for the Beetles and Vans.
Thanks @karamen …the last is one of my faves too. I was pretty far from this family when I took the shot with my telephoto lens and it was only through the magic of Lightroom that I was able to improve the exposure on their faces. π I have another one of the young boy taking a photo of his parents kissing. Did you see that one in the Facebook album? It’s kinda sweet too.
Thanks @susan and @tersha …your comments/feedback are appreciated.
Susan …. Yes…the monk is my son…took a lot of photos of him during his visit…something about those orange robes against just about any background. π He posted the one you like walking towards the sunset, as his Facebook page cover and it received the most likes (about 215 so far) of any photo he has ever used.
And…I think you’re right about that boy with the cape…a perfect caption.Tersha … The mermaids were pretty sweet and funny…I agree. And the sunset wasn’t really the best that day with clouds obscuring the actual setting, but they also added a lot of interest to the sky before it set…and I don’t think there is any such thing as a bad sunset at that beach! π
Thanks @harvey-melvin-richards and @tersha
It’s interesting that the “nest” they are building doesn’t seem to be getting any bigger…I’m not sure if they are losing interest in it or if it’s just really slow work. I will keep an eye on it for awhile longer. π
Thanks for the nice feedback, @astaroth and @zerileous …
I didn’t really get that close …maybe a couple of feet away… and they were much too busy with their work to even give me any notice. I don’t think you need to worry about wasps if you leave them alone and they are also very beneficial as they help with pollination and eat a lot of caterpillars that are harmful to garden plants. However, since they are close to our home, and a sting can be very nasty, we will probably remove this nest before it gets any bigger.Well deserved recognition Karen @karamen …you not only share wonderful photos with everyone…but you always share your enthusiasm and encouragement with others. I don’t know where you find the time but we are all the beneficiaries of both your contributions and feedback. π
I’ve been using 500px for awhile and really like it because of how my photos are displayed – good size and resolution. I haven’t made money from sales yet but haven’t put much time into promoting either. After using the site as a FREE user for a long time, I finally decided to pay for the “Awesome” membership and create a portfolio of my work because I don’t have a personal web site. It was easy and looks quite good, in my opinion. This seemed like an easy way to show samples to potential clients. I like the feedback I get from fellow users on the site, but I don’t put much stock in the “pulse” thing…it’s nice when you get a high number…but often doesn’t reflect your best work. I think it depends on who’s looking when you post a photo…different times of day also get different results. It is a great site for displaying work. Take a look….

Thanks for the nice feedback @susan and @nikon-nut. I was really happy with this photo as soon as I took it – just one of those images you know is going to be a “keeper”. π I’m going to have to put down my camera soon and just start enjoying the new surroundings without being compelled to take pictures of everything…I’m sure the novelty will wear off sooner or later. π
thanks @tersha …yes…we are really happy to have moved to such a lovely place…thoroughly enjoying the change. π
@zrno …lovely children beautifully captured…well done. π
A sunset concert in an outdoor park on Florida’s gulf coast was a good opportunity to take pictures of the children enjoying themselves on a beautiful warm evening.
