I agree with the corners being a bit too dark. I like the composition but it doesn’t look like it was at the extreme end of the 10-20mm. Apart from that, not much else to pick at.

LOL! All I can say is phew! I expected to be casted out or something….

Here is a pic that hasn’t been touched. One I didn’t use, as the boat in the distance is blurry…..but you can see that it is pretty similar to all the other images…..just that the others have had noise reduction (it is an iPhone!!), and sharpening on the poles (nowhere else or I will get my noise back!!).

….. and no doubt smartphone images are probably frowned upon!

What’s your your opinion on the subject?

If I had my camera with me I no doubt would have taken these with the camera instead but I was away without it and, as always, when you don’t have a camera the most amazing sight will be seen. =D

Well, I guess I should come clean then, hey?? These were taken with an iPhone. No filters, no instagram, nothing. A morning that certainly was one in a million. I can even show you the original….noise and all! LOL

I probably would have stuffed it up if I took these with the camera! hahaha

Truuuuust me….these were a fluke! I have never seen a sunrise like this again, but I hope I do one day. Thanks for the compliment anyway! =D

I am going to post my usual seascapes….then you can judge me! 😉

I never really looked upon my seascapes as a ‘series’ until someone mentioned it….and then I thought that it does represent one.

To me a series is one that is unified by something….be it a colour/s, form, genre. It can be as broad (a sunset series of just sunsets!) or as narrow in the idea (my sunset series).

On other forums, some people put up 5 or so images and many people would say “thats a nice series of images”.

BTW, how do you put up more than one image?

Thanks! I am so pleased with this series. The area doesn’t have any surf, as it is in a bay, so the water just has very slight ripples when it is calm. The post in the distance (and more on the horizon) are for the channel to guide the boats in to the jetty and ramp. I will post up the others. 🙂

Well, The Shark Tank is what brought me over to here! I saw the Lightstalking FB page promote it and thought YES!! Finally a forum area that actually gives critique instead of the usual ‘nice pic’! I am learning and I need to know what others see is wrong with my image. Ive only subitted one image but the feedback on that image was huge and I learned a lot from those critiques. So thankyou! =D

I can totally understand how huge it could get. Can you sub-divide it into sections, like Landscape, Portrait etc???

Kudos to you for thinking this up!! *thumbs up*

Yep, higher ISO to help boost the speed, so that anything moving will be sharp. Make sure the focus points on the camera are at the eyes.

It looks too yellow???? I would do a colour correction to adjust that.

Well, to get back to the image itself…..

I like the POV but I feel that it is too cramped at the bottom of the image…..needs more space. Thats the only thing I can pick up on.

I was low, but prob not low enough. It was with the 18mm kit lens, so prob not as wide-angled as I would like (18mm on a crop camera).

I presume you mean around and above the sun? That is part of a low cloud that had lifted from the day. It had been raining non-stop and just lifted not long before the sunset.

I wasn’t intending to do a HDR, but I did use 3 exposures for this image…..one for foreground, one for the sky and one for the sun (for its rays but that obviously didn’t work!).

I can see what you mean about being drawn to the brighter area.

                                          Thanks Michael-lloyd.

My kit lens only has 6 blades and produces a 6 pointed star (see avatar). On another forum, one of the more professional photographers commented how they haven’t seen a 6 pointed sunburst before….yep, they have a more professional lens!

I can see how that would work re the water on the lhs. When I was setting up the picture, I was actually looking at the line created by the rock on the rhs and thus kept back to make this more a feature. I usually am at the waters edge, or in the water itself (I def need gumboots!!) but this time I was not wearing the correct gear and it was quite muddy and slippery where I was.

Thanks for the suggestions….I will be going back many times to this area, so there will be more practice around these rocks.

Yes, I now see that the horizon def needs to be lower. I thought that there was enough rays on the sun, and I guess due to it being just a tad too low, couldn’t get them big enough. I always set my aperture to f22 or there abouts to get my sunbursts (see avatar), so a filter usually isn’t needed. I did take quite a few images during this time, so I will see if there is one with a bigger sunburst.

Those structures are part of the area – they are guiding poles for the boats as they come through the channel. I decided to leave them in as they are what the town is all about. I guess if this image was for a local tourist brochure, then leave them in. Since it is not, take them out!!

I used my 18mm kit lens for this image and I was looking more at the line created by the rock on the rhs than I was at how high the horizon was. Thanks for pointing this out as I will be more mindful in the future. 🙂
