π Sounds like you have quite a variety of birds. Just might be time to get that big lens out. π I’ve wandered through the house looking for an interesting everyday object for this week’s challenge. So far nothing sparks the creative juices. Thanks for commenting.

They love the Nyger sock. Other birds starting to show up so maybe I can step off the Goldfinch train soon. π

Thanks Mistyisle and Sharon. I appreciate your feedback. I should have toned down the flowers.

Hi Rob. I think this greenish tint you chose for this image works really well. Not the composition I would have used but that’s why I mostly stay away from the Shark Tank. Art is so subjective. Who am I to say what works and what doesn’t? It’s a beautiful flower and you’ve isolated it beautifully from the background. I like the amount of contrast…[Read more]

Thanks Patrick. I kept going back and forth between a lighter, “normal” exposure and this darker version. Decided I liked this darker one better. Was out on the porch yesterday putting a fresh pan of alder chips in the smoker and saw a pair of Black-headed Grosbeaks. They were gone by the time I came back out with the camera. Hoping they’ll come…[Read more]

Other than the occasional Black-capped Chickadee, these are the only birds we have seen in the yard lately.

Terrific shot Diane. Great color combo and choice of DOF. And they look just like our cinnabar moth cats. π They were a welcome sight at the farm where they kept the Tansy Ragwort in check. Poisonous to horses and cattle.

Thanks Rob. Glad I got this shot when I did. This Glad has since tipped over as Glads have a tendency to do. π

Thanks Rob. I snapped off about a dozen shots of this spider from different angles and using different settings. This one was the cleanest. With the wind blowing that zinnia back and forth some weren’t even close. π

Thanks Dahlia. Pretty much all insects make good photo subjects. And most, if not all, have an important role to play in the ecosystem. We used to grow fennel but haven’t for quite some time. We just don’t have the space now to grow everything we’d like.

On a zinnia. Taken on a gusty afternoon. Bumped up the ISO to 2500 to get a fast enough shutter speed to stop the movement. Both the flower’s and mine. π Handheld with a 100mm macro lens. 1/320 and f/8.
