      Sorry–trying again.

      Edit: Nope again. Oh well.

Guess the title should be “Sharing form some site other than Flickr.”

If the img tag from the bar above the reply box allows us to place an image into our posts, why would we need to use an embed html code from Flickr or elsewhere? I guess what I am asking is–is it OK to post photos this way–using the img tag.

        Testing from another source.

        Edit: Nope–doesn’t always work. Strange.

Replying to myself–looks like the image tag will allow you to “add” the url for a photo and display it in your messages on the list. So….

Does the picture show for others?

This is a test to see if I can embed from dpreview. If not, I’ll delete it–assuming I can edit my posts. Can one edit posts here?

Say, what is the img tag in the list above the reply box for? Testing it here.

Isn’t Instagram a mobile phone only thing? Don’t have a mobile phone.

Thanks for the point to LightZone, Pepper. I plan to check it out.

I think what software you need depends on what kind of photos you take and what you plan to do with them. These are some of the programs I use depending on my goals. These are all Windows programs.

For snapshots and quick removal of color casts, plus really good organization and non-destructive editing Picasa is very good software. FastStone offers some unique features and also is a great way to quickly view lots of stored photos. Both are free.

ZonerPhotoStudio (both free and paid versions) is terrific software for fine editing. Has the options to correct white and black points and take care of blown sections and much more. You will need the paid version for RAW editing, but RAW photos are displayed instantly. Some of the giveaway sites have free downloads on occasion.

A really fabulous program with an incredible number of features is SageLight. The learning curve is a bit more steep, but the results are worth it. The is also a free version called LightBox.

Some camera manufacturers also offer good programs for importing and organizing. Some may be good for editing–I’m not aware of any personally. And some multipurpose programs like the GIMP and Paint.Net offer photoediting capabilities.

Plus, sometimes it’s just fun to see what a program can do and how it works.

It’s just important to know that there are programs other than Adobe and Corel.

Why not download the free trials of some other programs and try them out before spending a lot of money. Decide what you really need for what you do.

Adobe CC is fine for those who do a lot of PP constantly and like LR and PS or think they are the only suitable options (which I don’t). After Adobe started asking for personal information and then got hacked, I canceled my account (which was for other programs related to actual work) and never looked back.

There are alternatives. Just depends on your own personal preferences.

Hi, call me SnowQueen. Photography runs in my family as my grandfather was an avid amateur starting in the 1920s back when you had to develop and enlarge your own photos. I still have his cameras. My mother also took color slide photos in the late 40s and 50s, a stunning departure from the standard B&W photos of the day. I always had simple cameras and was often told my pictures were good (composition, I guess, not quality of the prints!) and I finally moved to a film 35mm SLR in the 1980s. Costs of developing and dissatisfaction with my results made me stop for a bit–until I got my first digital camera in 1997–a Ricoh. Besides landscape photos, I have an interest in macro photography because it allows me to see the details that are otherwise missed. I like to take photos of plants, not only showy flowers, but grasses and native woodland plants. I also enjoy post-processing and have taught classes in simple photo editing techniques to folks with simple cameras and little computer expertise. I look forward to visiting this site and learning more about photography.
