A beautiful evening scene taken back in 2000 with my old Canon film camera, scanned from a slide. I do not remember all the particulars but knowing how I shot back then this is:
1/30th – camera selected aperture – ISO100 film
I tried to brighten it a bit but then the snow on the peaks blew out.Check It Out Reply to Topic

I agree with falx. Focus should be sharper and it looks a bit over exposed to me. Also the bottom of the photo is too high. What are they standing on?Check It Out

caimi,
I see your point and its a good one. Something to keep in mind for down the road.
One other problem I have with post processing is I just really dislike going through the process. I spend way too much time with PCs for work. In the evening I like a break.Check It Out -

I don’t post process. I don’t have time for that with my busy schedule. This picture is as close to what I saw as I could make it using the settings on the camera. That is my goal. I am always open to suggestions as far as ccomposition, though.Check It Out

I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of shooting blue and golden hour photos. The light this particular morning here was really quite amazing. There was a light fog in the air and the sun was just coming over the trees and hitting the waves near the beach. So I am again trying to capture some of the essence of that wonderful…[Read more]

It’s too dark. There are some interesting lines in the photo but much of the color and detail is lost in the deep shadow.Check It Out

No problem, John. I can handle the honest critique. If we never get feedback, negative or otherwise, on your photos we have little chance to improve. Thanks for the tip on Alain’s web site.Check It Out

This was a very difficult afternoon for shooting as the snow in a lot of the shots I took tended to blow out. Finding the right balance in the exposure was really tough. So, again disregarding the blue cast, does the exposure here work for you?Check It Out

John and falx,
Just to be clear…
If I did not want honest criticism I would not post here. One constructively critical comment is far better than 100 “great shot” comments.
I know you were not there but can you be a bit more specific on why you do not like the composition? I also understand this is subjective.
I took a class with a…[Read more] -

I think you achieved your goal just fine, but I don’t find the shot very interesting. Maybe just personal taste. 🙂Check It Out

Yeah, I had the same issue with the possibly too dark foreground. But I had forgotten my GNDs up on the rim.Check It Out

Grand CanyonI took this on the Bright Angel Trail. I have been experimenting a lot with some of the settings on the camera (AEL, exposure compensation) and liked the result here and also some tips I received in a seminar with a pro photog (shoot wider and from lower down). I am curious what others think.

Some things I don’t like:
– I think if I had rotated slightly left the tall rock on the left and the gull would be in slightly better positions, the so-called power points.
– I agree that the rock on the left is slightly underexposed. What I like:
– good layering
– lots of tension, I think, in the scene. Clouds in background are blowing…[Read more] -

The only thing I don’t like is that the closet railcar is cut off at the top of the picture. I think I would have preferred it going off the side only.Check It Out
