The only real problem with the tank as I see it, is that it’s unlikely to ever get any great photographers attracted to it. I mean, for certain they’re not going to post photos for criticism for a variety of reasons; firstly because I imagine they’re already confident enough in their own work, and secondly because it could be perceived as…[Read more]

Thank you for your kind words, @jimeuph1
And I really do apologize if I have been rude. I am not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I have to call things as I see them.
@anniet I really am looking forward to seeing your fully realized version of this short, and I hope you will take what you learned in this thread and share something new…[Read more]

And I agree with you @jonathantimar she can’t of expected good remarks back from that shot, but I do think she was just looking for a cheat sheet on how to achieve shots like what you are producing in low light.
I think that our opinions went without saying.
@anniet just post your better work up, stuff that is 90% what you want but just…[Read more]

I am afraid I cannot provide settings as that is not my photo, though I am certainly inspired to visit that location and give it a go myself.
I don’t feel that I am starting a flame war here, in fact I can’t understand what the issue is. @anniet admitted that the photo was bad early on. Many people jumped in and gave her some very good advice…[Read more]

I thought it had been done on a point and shoot and you were looking for advice on how to go back with better equipment and do a better job?
Please don’t have a flame wars again, it really puts me off using this forum and I am sure I am not the only one who thinks the same!
Find a better way to get your point across @jonathantimar I…[Read more]

I would of tried a more diffused light as her face is bright (which you already said yourself) and also the light on both arms is very direct.
The space giving her gaze somewhere to go is good, and the back ground is quirky, you said the back ground was straight out of camera? Is that because you tried experimenting with it? I would be tempted…[Read more]

@anniet, good point about decreasing the objective of the image, I didn’t think about it like that. I wonder if you could change the position of the dog to sitting, you could still have the teapot, the pillow etc, and the dog would stand out more and still look regal?

When are you going to post your photos, @anniet ?

Hi @anniet, I did use a tripod and an exposure time of 111 seconds. The windows in most of these places here are completely boarded over with chipboard so no light gets in. What little there is comes from vandalism. I think this is about the best I’m going to get out of this place, unfortunately, because the adrenalin surge makes me feel I should…[Read more]

I agree, as I said above, that the vertical is better. I prefer the less saturated look, however – less yellow, and more “foggy”…… or “silvery” as @anniet said. Thanks to all for your comments – both good and bad. Very helpful…

I agree with @anniet, this would work better in black and white. If you’re using Lightroom, try they green or blue filter preset and see what you think.
