John your critiques are, in my humble opinion,second to none,fair and honest……:) am always fascinated at others picking up on things in my images that never crossed my mind…..my father..85,with no art appreciation at all…his mother was a pretty good painter!!….seems to either deride or ignore my work,but overheard him the other day…[Read more]

@valeryp I was wondering what has happened to @bcola. Considering the problems that I had logging in, could he be suffering the same malady??? He was a regular here and then just dropped off. I liked his posting as well. @admin Rob???Check It Out

Another nice pic from Bob (@bcola). I will third the recommendation to clone out the background flower. I love the focus on this. I am not a big fan of having the closest areas of the subject in focus and tailing off across the sides of subject. And, this is why. Nicely done and only the subject in focus.Check It Out

@bcola,
Thank you, I have a shot of some Cedar Waxwings from the same day, in the same tree as well.
I am working on my editing technique (haven’t quite figured out “spot lightening/darking) but I am eager to learn everything! I know how important it is to get the eyes focused and will continue working on it.
Your comment is so very much…[Read more] -

I should add: @valeryp I must agree with @caimi about OUR criticisms. I am just as guilty as anyone that posts here and I appreciate @caimi bringing it to our attention. The purpose is to improve other photographers out there not to criticize what they photograph. A good example would be @bcola commenting on my last post of the b&w Joshua Tree.…[Read more]

To @bcola Hi Bob! Always waiting for your new posts. Here is an excelent bokeh and excelent composition-the bird is exactly against sun’s reflection-nice catch!
BTW I have masked a little the low part of the frame with a card and IMO the bird starts to “fly”! Try it!Check It Out -

@bcola If you don’t have a problem with the nose then there is no problem. Just an opinion. Frustrating was the wrong word. How about challenging? I mostly shoot candid but I find the studio to be challenging too because of the opportunity to get everything just right in what should be ideal conditions, which seldom happens. Don’t you…[Read more]

As @bcola said this is again a great picture technically. To me when I see a good street scene pic my mind immediately will start making up a story in my head about what is going on. This one doesn’t quite get me to that until after I have looked for a while. That really is not a bad thing perhaps just different.Check It Out

I would like to see a wider shot that would include the entire heart and her chopped off legs and shopping bag. There is an awkward feeling with the man almost out of the picture that would be improved by turning the camera just a bit the the right to give him some space for his face. I agree with @bcola that this pretty much just a snap shot.…[Read more]

@bcola thanks for the feedback, it is always interesting to hear another perspective on a image, when I took it I liked the framing of the lady with in the LOVE and the heart and the way she appeared to be looking at the man in front. Maybe I didn’t make my story quite clear enough, any suggestions on how I can improve the narrative?Check It Out

I like it. The inclusion of the “walk” sign completes the idea beautifully. The post that partially obscures the woman is a problem that could have been solved by shooting a split second later but with street photography you shoot when you can sometimes. And like @bcola, I think the processing is perfect for the scene.Check It Out

@bcola you should be able to get some light on the hair if you raise shadows in pp.
For some reason my eye is looking for a crop a little more to the right. But that’s just me.Check It Out
