I see what you mean by the building on the left. I would like to keep the people in the photo, I think they add to the story. Check It Out

This is an interesting discussion, some like the background & others don’t. I think the background is blown out (I’ve done this inadvertently myself many times). I think this photo is suited to B&W more than sepia, Increase the contrast & reduce the exposure, after that just dodge & burn.

I don’t think black & white does this image justice. Either full colour, even if the image was desaturated a bit.Check It Out

The red and yellow on the pavement is sunlight through the coloured glass roof of this light rail transit station. I’m hoping to get a critique on this photo, particularly the composition.
Thanks,

In my opinion, this photo lacks impact. It would be more interesting photo if the photo was taken closer to the plane, even photograph a portion of the plane.

From my point of view, the subject are the bicycles in the bottom left corner of the image. This was a very busy place, I agree I should have taken a couple of more photos (different composition) and yes a wider shot. I don’t know if I would have preferred another view. because what caught my eye was the mass of bicycles (my subject).Check It Out

I was debating whether to use vibrant colours, black & white or desaturate the colours. I decided to go with desaturation. I wanted to convey despite the age and appearance, the bicycles are still useful. Any critiques or comments…[Read more]

The answer is obvious, get a new husband which would be easier to tell your to grow some hair!!! Now seriously…Have you tried dodging & burning? (I can’t remember which is one decreases exposure) I’m starting to find that if you selectively adjust one area on your photo, you can get better results. Would make up help?Check It Out

I like the original composition better. I would also try to lighten the foreground. Check It Out

Thanks for your comments, I’ve started playing with this in Photoshop. I’ve already tried colouring the sky, it was difficult to get the right colour. I haven’t decided if that is what I want yet. But all of your comments do help. Thanks, once again.Check It Out

Thanks everybody for all of your advice and insights. If tried to fix the sky, but I wasn’t happy with the results and you’ve gave me more suggestions to try. Otherwise, I live about 2 hrs away from this spot which means I can try to redo the photo.

Does the blown out sky detract from the photo? Is this photo “fixable” or should I simply start over?Check It Out -

@ 55 mm f/5.6 ISO 100I love the sun beams falling on the trees. I think the foreground is too dark, but I just can’t get over the blown out sky. I’ve tried make it blue, but it looks fake to me. My question is “Does the blown out sky detract from the photo?” My…[Read more]

If you can retake the photo, I would take a longer exposure. I think this photo would look best if the water was milky (not see the water). Jason Little did a short guide through LightStalking on taking photos of waterfalls. The techniques he described would be perfect for a photo like this. I would reduce the exposure (maybe one stop) and try…[Read more]

The bird is too small to be of significance. I would try to crop most of the rocks out (about the bottom 20%?)

A rule of thumb is never chop off limbs at joints. With this kind of photo, you’ll start looking at details on her face. You would want to remove blemishes, wrinkles, whiten teeth, enhance the eyes, remove stray hairs, etc.
