@gaganred I hope I have helped you a little. Photography is such a subjective media and opinions can vary. @el-dub points that out in his posted portrait pic. If you have not looked in on that one go and see for yourself. If nothing else keep having fun with your camera!!! For us that is what it is all about. 🙂Check It Out

I think it is a bit better. Perhaps part of the problem is the small image we are looking at. With this image it looks as if you have, maybe, 4 zones at most and for good b&w (normally) to work you should be upwards of 6 to 7. Zones are the different shades going from black to white. I would venture a guess that the histogram for this image is…[Read more]

You’re right @gaganred . The brighter exposure does eliminate the sparkle of the reflections a little. The nose one was a little too hot. I agree with everyone who said this. The eyes are wet, so a strong catchlight reflection there looks natural and healthy, but the one on the nose feels like it needs to be toned down a bit. Check It Out

Hi @gaganred, I am assuming it was not taken in a studio and hence the lighting may not have been under your control but the use of ambient light here kind of works, without any harsh shadows spoiling the portrait. That said, the face kind of hangs there in the middle by itself which is not very pleasing, if you get what I mean. Some lighting to…[Read more]

@gaganred is a pupil of you ?
I don’t call that a manipulation. I suppose that you removed the cover of the box otherwise we would see a photo of a “puppeteer’s box cover” :-).
In still life I think that you have to compose the image. Different from a landscape where it’s difficult to move the mountains except in Star Trek.

I’m a bit too lazy to re-read the entire thread again, but I can so that for my part that’s not what I was saying at all. Street photography most certainly can be artistic and often is.
The question I was answering is whether it would be saleable “art” which is different from whether it’s artistic or not. In the case of @gaganred‘s graffiti…[Read more]

For my two cents:
I don’t think either of these two photos in question (@gaganred‘s and @pmarione‘s) can be considered “art” in the classical sense. Both fall into the realm of “street photography” in that they capture a moment, perhaps in an artistic way, but they aren’t something you are likely to decorate your walls with. Though even that is…[Read more]

In my mind Marione adds an element to the trompe l’ oeil by taking a picture of it framed through a window, giving it a very slight surreal look (hence the title Magritte). If the photo was just taken outside with nothing in between the effect would be totally lost and again, it would just be an image of someone else’s art.
It’s not that I t…[Read more]

I agree, the two competing subjects are a bit distracting. A crop (on the left, in this case) would fix that, but then you’ll lose a heap of pixels. Besides that, I quite like the fact you’re experimenting with different angles. This one looks like you got down quite low, which I think works.
Keep practicing @gaganred, it looks like you’re in a…[Read more]

You’ve put up with a lot from the Tank haven’t you @gaganred? I think it’s beginning to pay off though. The shot is quite nicely composed and exposed, especially with what looks like quite a high dynamic range.
As for some extra exploration work, seeing it looks like you’re interested in the building, may I suggest you move up quite close,…[Read more]

What I see from your photography over and over is that you have a great sense of what would make a good subject, but your execution of what is often lacking. This is another one of those cases.
The number one worst problem is that there is a large squire blob on the right side of the window behind the guitar. Had you removed this,…[Read more]

By golly @gaganred, I think you might be getting better at this! 🙂 I don’t mind it at all for some reason. I think it has a good atmosphere, with the clouds looking kind of threatening and brooding. I don’t even mind the underexposure of the lower half of the hotel.
For me though, I think the vignette is a either completely unnecessary or way…[Read more]

Hi, @gaganred, your photos take a very long time to show up, so, I’m assuming your image size is too big…….to upload into a forum, it should be no longer than 500px/ins on the longest side,…..please see uploading info at beginning of forum…..thanks
