Welcome Mark er oleman. I do a 52 week challenge that has themes that cause me to photograph things that I might never do. Everything that makes the camera come out help us to learn.
You may throw out what you took, but you learned from that experience.
Looking forward to seeing your work.

Welcome Adeleen. Get that camera out and start taking photos. You will learn as you look at your images. There might be a photographer in your area that gives lessons. Getting to know your camera is first and learning composition is next. Look forward to seeing your work.

Welcome Debgarcia. Jumping in and doing is how to learn. If I can assist, let me know. I work in a photo studio and do editing for another photographer. My images have won a number of competitions and I have had some published in Art Book Tampa Bay.

              David,
Are you using windows or mac? If Windows, find the photo in windows explorer or open it in the image viewer, then right click on the photo and then in the pop-up window – click on – Properties. Once that opens up, you will see 4 tabs – select Details. If you scroll down it will show you the camera, f-stop, exposure time, iso, focal length, etc.
Sorry I am not a MAC person, but there is probably something similar on that.

I am new to Lightstaling and I am not sure what level of critique should be provided. Forgive me if I take this further than you wanted. I try to look at images using the steps for competition. So while you might not be looking in that direction for this image, some of the things I mention are to assist for the next image you take.

As to the photo, nice angle. It is always nice with animals to take the image from eye level of the animal if possible. I realize this was a compact camera, but see if you can setup to use the flash – which would act as fill flash and give the catch light in the eyes. Getting the eyes in focus is the #1 for animal photography. The eyes here are too dark to see, which the fill light would help. THe next is the back ground is a distraction as it is too bright and it pulls the viewer’s eye away from the dog. Darken the background and if you are into photoshop remove the black branch or whatever that is to the right of the dog.

Thank you Tersha. I am sure there are many members that are good photographers. I look forward to sharing with members. There is always something new to learn and everyone brings those things to the table. As soon as I get my feet underneath me here, I have no problem sharing my work.
