I like this frame better (relating to the weeds and more reflection showing). However, I am guessing that this one was captured later than the original post. Sun has gone higher and the light has become more intense. The fog is gone for the most part as well.
@tripcyclone I took the liberty to download your second image and play with it in…[Read more]

I like the square crop for this image better. Brings more attention/detail on the classic bugs. Going a touch lighter has also helped IMO. I like the junk present, especially the tire on white hood. The blue bug is the focus of attention for me in this monochrome image anyways. The branches growing all over the bugs are adding to the age, giving an…[Read more]

The foreground weeds are blocking the sun/light reflections in the water, which could have added enormously to the impact. Maybe composing from a point to the right could have included those reflections in full.
I would use a graduated filter (in post process) to bring down the lights in the sky and bringing out more color, making it some closer…[Read more] -

Thank you @karamen, @tombeecroft and @camerasinger for all the suggestions, picking the soft focus and reminding that nothing less than tack sharp is acceptable. The eye seemed reasonably sharp but is not tack sharp either I admit.
The bird is of a small size about 12cm. The pic was taken from 20 feet away with a 400mm at f/5.6 for 1/1500sec…[Read more]

I am fairly new to birding pics. My problem so far is the control of the back grounds. I mean yes I can set myself up with a nice back ground and wait for the bird to land at my area of focus, but I’m shying from the hard work still. Time being the main constraint. Anyways, I got the shot, I got the bokeh but I don’t like how the background is…[Read more]

Nauman Shafique replied to the topic too blue or not too blue…that is the question in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 8mo ago
Well, I am not an expert. Personally, I try to find a high contrast area about one thirds into the frame. With a tight aperture it gives me better overall focus, even if I am off the ideal focal point. At times I would even try focusing at hyper focal distance, again depending upon the aperture and the focal length of the lens. I like bokeh effect…[Read more]

Nauman Shafique replied to the topic too blue or not too blue…that is the question in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 9mo ago
I would have gone with a lower ISO for sure and may be closing the aperture a stop as well. 1/4000 shutter tells me that could be done. To answer the question, yes I find it a bit too blue for my liking but I’m used to seeing flat skies most of the time. Kit lenses are alright but they will not match the sharpness of primes or fast lenses for that…[Read more]

The picture loaded fine for me. Other than the swizzle stick that moved out of symmetry, how about the liquid levels in the glasses ? 🙂 i’m just trying hard to point at something. I love the pic.

I’m just amazed with this iphone capture. For me, the pic is all about the sunset sky and reflections in the water. It’s a biased opinion though as i’m big on sunsets. I see the limitation in composition with a smart phone camera, keeping both the sun and the wave splash in frame. But I will still take it as it is, because without the wave, the…[Read more]

Well, @sabb above has nicely nailed the answer to your question. Can’t add much to it.
The title of the pic one chooses sometimes also help in getting more of people attention. I find the main subject in this pic to be the water and the beautiful tones in it. The turtle complements them yes but in current picture, it is not the main subject,…[Read more]

I am no shark but will give it a try although you have picked up on the right spots with your self critique 🙂
Maybe cropping a bit on the right side to take away the two lone twigs on right towards the upper 2/3rds of the frame might help with the composition? As it is about light, which I think is enhanced by presence of shadows. I would try…[Read more]
