I like the blur of the water cascade. Composition is nice that you got the meandering stream path going from the right to the left.
My suggested improvements are:
– upper 1/2 seems a little overexposed. You may be able adjust this in LR or PS using a density filter.
– might want crop a bit more off the right side since it’s a little bit…[Read more]

Wow! You are a talented studio shooter. Keep it up. Nothing to add as a far as suggestions beyond what the others have said.
Keep it up – you have a bright future!

I would have liked to see a slower shutter speed to blur the falls a bit. It’s a falls/cascade type subject so my tastes is to blur cascades.
This is a slippery slope – pardon the pun – as you can go too slow and get a sloppy waterfalls. I like to take shots using Manual with different shutter speeds – .5 seconds to multi-second – and see what…[Read more]

Thanks for the kind words. it was a great trip that I hope to do again someday. After I win the lottery, of course.

Thanks @raviputcha – I can address the tilt and removed a bit of the foreground, but as we were in a game park, there wasn’t much I could do about the height of the camera. :o)

@admin: be careful what you ask for. See: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rennisk/sets/72157636171642365/ for some other wildlife shots taken in Tanzania.

I personally LOVE HDR but it can get out of control. For shots like this – where there’s a lot of contrast – I have been using Photoshop’s HDR merge capability rather than the likes of Photomatrix. I’m not sure what exposure range you used, but -2, 0, +2 seems to be good.
The advantage I’m finding in Photoshop HDR is that you natural looking…[Read more]

Interesting – I hadn’t notice that before. I don’t see it on the original, so it may be something that happened through the other postprocessing I did. However, I’ll try the adobeRGB).
thanks

I took this also in Tarangire Park and wanted feedback on the post-processing edits that either I’ve done or should do.
Taken with a Canon 5D MK2 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L (at 340mm), 1/180 sec; f/8; ISO 200.
Here’s the final version I came up with:

It’s a different animal portrait, but I like it. One thing to try is to lighten the right eye (at least the left portion) a little as it’s falling into the shadow and it’s a dominant component of the subject.

Interesting abstract. My initial reaction in looking at the larger version is that the whites are too bright such that I can’t appreciate the full composition (especially the columns).

Nice photo – some motion blur (as mentioned). I think you could greatly improve it using a more vertical crop, lobbing off the “cabbage” thing on the right, a bit off the top, and a wee bit off the left, such that the flower bloom is the in the upper right rule-of-thirds line intersection (or there about). Then you may need to darken the bright…[Read more]

Background is too bright and washes out the lip print. Fool around with the contrast & use LR ND filters to help.

The composition is nice – looks like a well staged vacation photo (versus a snapshot), but the hard lesson to learn is that you really have to pause and taken the complete image – I think you would have seen the Sandals sign if you had. That’s the most distracting thing about the photo.
It is a little underexposed (as mentioned earlier);…[Read more]

I personally like the composition – nice color & nice bokeh. Due to the high ISO & her complexion, I might suggest doing some skin softening. Not sure what tools you use, but I use NIK Color Efex Pro and the “Dynamic Skin Softener” on most model shots. Your shot has very nice sharp eyes in it and I think there’s a way you can retain this in Color…[Read more]

I took this in Tarangire Park using a Canon t3 with a 24-105mm f/4L lens (at 50mm), 1/60sec, f/8, ISO 100.
The links below show the original crop and a tighter version. I’m interested in your feedback on which is better or is there a different crop.

Agree with @fredf – a GND might do the trick on this. Maybe cropping down a bit from the top as well. The leading lines & slow shutter speed produce an excellent composition.
