I decided today I am going to try this throwdown deal.
A particular challenge that never gets old for me, is using a fast shutter speed to freeze the action while preserving a sense of motion.
I am going to start with the following three examples. I would like to see how others meet this challenge.White water.jpg by Ian Kahler on Light Stalking

Well to be honest – no, @tersha – it was my 24-85mm lens @ 85mm. I knew that they liked having a sip at this particular water hole about an hour or so after a meal so I waited there in my car, about 3m from the hole. All other spactators had already left (typical city dwellers – no patience or expectations at all!) and I was the only one left to snap this! 😉
BTW I must actually re-PP this one – it was done when I was much greener behind the ears in DSLR photography. I’m not sure I still have the RAW though since my backup external hard drive was ‘taken’ from my safe during an armed robbery at home… 🙁

(Aaaah! Sorry Chrissie, don’t know where my thoughts were above – thought it was @tersha’s comment for some reason!)

Allows Edits? YesHey, no problem. You can call me @Tersha any time since she’s such a sweetie.
It’s distressing to hear about the robbery, yikes! Take my car, take my
money, take my dog but please don’t take my backup drive!!! 😉

As I learn more about how this amazing instrument in my hands actually works, I thought I would experiment a little with “freezing the action”, or “panning”. I realize I should have panned a tad more to capture motionless legs, but for my first attempt, on a dark snowy night, I liked the result. Although, my husband may have preferred I had a shovel in my hand instead of a camera. 😉

Allows Edits? YesI am no good at this but I think I got 1 decent photo after taking many, many shots. It was taken with a Canon 100mm f2, and severely cropped. I don’t have a macro lens. 🙁
I am going to give it another go today with a 50mm 1.8. Hopefully I can find a different insect. I really want to get a hoverfly. -

Allows Edits? YesThank you so much @tersha. I was unsure about it, especially in B+W, but I just had to because I don’t see alot of B+W insect photos. I wan’t to try all insects in B+W. 😀 I thought it made the background creamy too. lol

I went to a “Pro Experience” special event where I got to tag along with a professional photographer at a Round Rock Express AAA MiLB game. Shooting from the field level media box and having a pro giving me advice all day was well worth the money! So here is one of my “Freezing the Action” shots from the day.

As the boat slowed a bit, opportunity came to catch this dolphin about to jump:

Just had to add this one. I think I like watching my son play baseball as much as I like photographing dogs. For those that know me on here, thats saying’ something! However I thought I would take a break from the canine side of things for this one.
My son is the one jumping over the catcher. He is a madman on a baseball field!
