I’m fortunate to live nearby a 120 year old architectural gem here in Pasadena CA, The Gamble House. It’s my go-to for practicing low light photography.Ā

The show was actually called “Enchanted”. It was an amazing display with great shots everywhere you looked.
Thank you, Patrick. Happy Holidays!
Thank you, Federico. The gamble house has actually told many stories, as it has been used in dozens of movies in its over 100 years of existence. It is a indeed photogenic. Even more so at night, I think.
Thank you, Rob. Very nice of you to say so. But a beginner I am. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thank you, Beaky. Not bad for an old dude wear’n glasses in the dark, right?
Thank you, Erik. I’ve got two workshops coming up, both shooting downtown LA at night. So, I’m sure the tilt-shift lens will be discussed. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you, Patrick and Dahlia.
Hi Dahlia. Yeah, one of Ericks edits addressed something in the shot that was distracting to me but I didn’t know how to fix it. The three lamps over both the B and L detract from the beauty of the sign glowing under the fireworks. Erik knocked those out and the result gives the shot the look of fireworks exploding over the Hotel California. I really like the feel of it. Thanks again, Erik!
I’m hoping this fits the topic. I shot this last year and may have incorporated natural juxtaposition without understanding it as a photography concept at that time. Or, I’m way off base and this isn’t a good example at all.
I love that look! This produces the result I had imagined several days before I shot it. You have given me much to think about. Which is why I joined LS in the first place. Thank you so much for the demo and the time you took to produce it!
Erik, thank you for your edit. Your changes are awesome and lend so much to the photo. I gave myself an assignment to capture a shot of fireworks over the iconic Rose Bowl. Your edit removes what the shot doesn’t need and refines it to what I set out to get. Does this edit help address what Rob was referring to concerning the visual weight of two points of interest? Removing the clutter around the Rose Bowl signage seems to get me closer to what I was hoping for. Thanks again.
Thank you for your feedback, Tersha!
Thank you, Rob. I got a laugh out of your last sentence. But I would never ignore the advice of anyone on this forum.
Hello, Beth. I have been using YouTube for photography quite a bit recently. But I haven’t come across Piximperfect yet. But it’s now at the top of my search list. This tip from you is exactly why I joined LS. Thanks again.
