Quite a difficult one to critique, @doctorflash – looks like you achieved what you set out to do.
Again, abstract or stylised shots are quite difficult to give feedback on.Check It Out

oh sorry, here are the settings:
ISO1250 50mm f5 1/0.5
i was just fiddling when taking this pic, not really going for anything except a shot i liked. i liked the pale colors, how the lighting felt, and i liked the feeling of lushness with the drooping flowers and pollen on the floor.
i appreciate the critique of @doctorflash about the…[Read more]

@doctorflash, thanks for the comment! i too like it better in b&w. i don’t disagree about the white light either – if i’m learning anything about the difference between a snapshot and a solid photo, it’s all about the details. I use LR editing software, would you recommend just using the brush to darken that spot a little?Check It Out

@joyce0114 – This place is located on the waterfront and it is one of my favorite places in the city, especially early in the morning. The sepia happened by chance – I was clicking through filters, just looking, and really liked what it did for the image. The full-color original has beautiful colors, but I just liked the sepia.

I have considered doing a whole series at a shopping mall. No matter what mall you are in, and not just in the US, it is an otherworldly experience populated by strange forms of (mostly adolescent) life, garish decoration, music hovering in the air like a fog and the smells of fried food, bubblegum left on the floor and dirty diapers. A…[Read more]

@doctorflash; I don’t see it as having gone off on a divergent path. I think my criticism was valid. I don’t think Ms. Elizabeth read it carefully because she decided instead to get her feelings hurt. If you re-read it, there are cogent points both about her photos and about her approach. And it is all done without resorting to posting a photo…[Read more]

@doctorflash The Impressionists are one of my favourites. I love Monet and other similar artists, as in the Heidelberg School, ie Australian artists Streeton, Robert’s et al .
I also have some tests I use-First Glance, and Frame and Wall. Does it pass the first glance test, or would I frame that and hang it on my wall ?
You can have a…[Read more] -

I agree with all that @doctorflash had to say, and would add that it is missing a singular point of interest. Something that the eye would be drawn to. Otherwise the eyes just wander about the entire photo.Check It Out

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think this is quite an improvement! Less shadows in the hair, boost exposure, color correct the green glove. @doctorflash thanks for the tip on the mouth… I haven’t shot too many portraits with the mouth wide open!

@doctorflash: I have quite a few photos that drive me nuts because of nitpicks. Either someone else, or I would point something out and I would never be able to look at it the same again. lol

@doctorflash:
Thank you so much! I do respect your opinions on these matters, but please take into account that the photos were taken with no notice in a very real atmosphere where many things are just beyond my control.I don’t find those minor things to be issues. A slight vantage point change and I would have a weaker composition and much…[Read more]

@doctorflash, thank you. I have no book, only read multiple on line tips and took LOTS of photos, lots of scenarios, along with lens changes, basin changes….lots of changes. The image above was in a wine glass, which might explain the curve of the rim.
I si very much appreciate you taking the time to comment!! Check It Out -

Thank you for your feedback. đŸ™‚It is hard to see when the photo is so small, but I was actually going for the tricycle and person that appears to be fleeing into the unknown dark area.
