UPDATE:

I went with the “Photography Plan”.

PS, LR, & LR Classic, 20Gb.

I will not be using any of the online storage.

Side note (AND VERY ANNOYING): after purchase, the Adobe Cloud App appeared on my computer with a link to install LR.

“Very cool!” I thought to myself.

Installed LR, opened it, tried to open my LR3 catalog.

File/Open Catalog did not exist.

“WTH is going on here?” I questioned.

Help/About shows version 6.2.

“The latest version is 12 something. What in the frick-frack-paddy-whack is going on here?” I abruptly verbalized, clearly annoyed.

Turns out the CC App installed the non-classic of LR.

A quick uninstall/install the correct version fixed my up right away.

Opened my LR3 catalog, it converted the catalog to the latest version, pointed the library at the folder location on my new computer for the image files (manually copied from the old PC, of course), and wouldn’t you know Bob’s your Uncle & Fanny’s your Granny, everything was good!

MUCH easier than I hoped, after I got the correct version installed.

Hopefully this will help somebody in the future.

My initial plan was to use LR exclusively because, well, “that’s how I’ve always done it”.

I had forgotten about the ability to open in PS from LR. I will definitely check that out.

Question, though: after editing & saving in PS, does it create a virtual copy back in LR, or does the original have the edits from PS (sidecar, if you will), or something else?

All good on the PC side of things.

The catalog is what scares me, but getting the “official” latest & greatest version will get me support, so I’m not as concerned.

 

I’m sure I’ll have a good bit of swearing, no matter how smooth it goes…

I have considered it.

My hang-ups are/were a couple:

• LR3 is so old, newer versions will be like learning an entirely new software package.
• At first, the thought of a subscription turned my stomach, but when you look at it as $120/year for the latest greatest version, it’s really a no-brainer. The price of the perpetual was more than that, even if you skipped a version (or two).
• Initially, I did not realize there was a Classic (desktop) version AND a Creative Cloud version. I’m definitely not interested in the cloud only version.

There’s also the fear of the unknown.

I’m going to go for the Lr/Ps Photography plan to get Lr Desktop.

I despise those types of people.

Yes, I capture some garbage (most of it, tbf), but once in a while I’ll get a good one.

WTH are these types of forums if not to help amateurs and pros alike?
