Thanks @raviputcha @sabb @nikon-nut and @jonathantimar . I definitely feel the same way but needed objective opinions on this. I wanted to possibly enter one of these into a local contest held by our town. I love the black and white one but feel that people seem to like color photographs more in general.
Thank you for your…[Read more]

Hi all,
Thanks for all your remarks. Concerning the vertical wall, I will check, what a lens correction might bring. But whar @sabb said is right, it’s an ancient village anyway. Concerning the colors, yes, I already tried to inforce some colors, but it did change the mood, so I kept it.

@sabb a good bulldozer may help. But I am sure that the wall is straight and vertical but not the optic so it’s easier to straight it up in any soft than to have to incline the wall in the village.Check It Out

I had some good comments, but it’s easier to just say, “what @sabb said”.
I’ll add that I think for this kind of subject matter you need to be willing to play with the colours in such a way as to play up the “old and a bit creepy” effect. This image is very, very flat.
I have referred to this photographer before: http://www.oboylephoto.com/a…[Read more]

Hey @gaganred – if you put a @ sign in front of their name, they will see a notification – like @sabb, @jonathantimar and @caimi

I see eye to eye with you @sabb about the misty shots. They create a fascinating and engaging atmosphere. By the way, Matt Pringle’s works are overwhelming.

Folks – would appreciate if you all updated the settings on your profile page regarding allowing others to edit your shots. This will get the ball rolling for the culture of the forum on this topic.
In your Control Panel go to My Settings > Profile > Edit.

Just checking that it works for you. 🙂

@sabb I totally agree about the composition, like I said the focus point shifted as the baby became restless suddenly – this shot was spontaneous.
You got it right, the mother was happy – she doesn’t care about the focus.
Agree with your other remarks as well – those comments were gone – and it doesn’t matter any more and I’m not one of…[Read more]

Ok, so guys how do you think we should play this (other forums have the same issue)?
(Please remember my aversion to “rules” for the forum so hopefully we can get through this by establishing a forum culture or “guidelines” for this issue rather than simply making a rule or prescribing it)
What is the etiquette we should try to establish for…[Read more]

Very nice.
I think the effect works nicely with this photo and agree with everything @sabb said. It is true that one of the hardest things in processing is seeing what and how much is necessary and then knowing when and where to say “enough”. That is where the art is in processing.
Cool photo.

I agree that she *does* no her way around the camera. Ironically I visited her Facebook page as well and there I found an earlier shot of the Golden Gate Bridge that was very nice. So if she had stuck around instead of having a hissy fit because someone (me apparently) said something she didn’t like, she might have found this a very constructive…[Read more]

All I’m saying is, if you are trying to sell your photos, the bird silhouette with the blue background will sell (at a mall gallery or department store) far better than @sabb‘s. Your average person isn’t looking for edgy, artsy fartsy stuff. They want familiar things and colors that go with their furniture.

Background is better in the first picture but the spider in the second picture has much more impact!
I agree with @sabb a much smaller aperture would help isolate the spider further.

@sabb: I held a piece of paper over the far right of image on my screen to see what a square crop does. Doesn’t hurt any. But I like the added nothingness of the entire image as presented.
