Thanks, Robert! Plan on spending a bit of time in DV…there are SO many amazing photo ops there!
Thanks, Kent! BTW I have your “Understanding Light” books…1 and 2! Just starting to dive into them.
Wow, thanks! My first foray into the TANK and the sharks aren’t too hungry! OK, going back thru the comments…@rickshep, even with the first one blown out, I liked it better cuz it looked kind of “grunge”…not a vignette freak, maybe just a little heavy on the slider (using it to try and eliminate junk in the corners?); on the second post, I forgot which preset I used in SilverEfex; Agreed, doesn’t have the impact! And, @falx I’ll keep trying to break out of the landscape mode and get out there and try to see more life. I really didn’t have this image in mind when I looked thru the viewfinder; just got lucky with the tight crop…thanks for the pressure! @bgag29 I am going to get rid of the vignette altogether and use another technique to get rid of the distractions around the edges. And, @claudia-betia, in order to get just the hands on the table, the crop is right up to the lower-left guys face/head. Trying to get more of his hands would bring his body into the image. The vignette was in LR5’s development module…maybe also in the SilverEfex preset; haven’t used filters in post, so will give it a try. @carlodl, I’ll try to keep the table spotlight effect without losing the detail in the dominos.
Thanks everybody!thanks everybody. Above is the edited version.
This image is just one of my first attempts into “observation” and travel photography, as most of my other images have been landscape. Thanks @karlodl…I went back to LR and burned in that upper R corner, and held back the highlights on the table and dominoes (as @nikon-nut also mentioned). I think when I did the conversion in SilverEfex, the preset I used was too contrasty. Would it be beneficial to re-post it?
Much better in B/W, but agreed, it would benefit from a stormy sky…give it a spooky feel. Also, can you get a different angle on it so the windmill isn’t sticking out from the roof? Maybe shoot it from the right to keep that wicked looking tree so the windmill is either out of the frame or shown attached to the ground like our mind tells us it should be? B/W conversion done in Silver EFex? Maybe lighten the shadows?
