@kwongphotography Thank you for always pointing me in new directions with helpful links. I’ll take a look and see what I can do – after I get the focus technique with my new macro lens under my belt. You are right, the autofocus is very slow. Manual gives me a new set of problems (handshake), so I’m getting in more practice with my tripod which…[Read more]

@kwongphotography Thanks for your suggestions on ways to a dark/black background, I’ll keep them in mind. Your cormorant example is stunning, thanks for sharing! I’m still in experimental/learning mode, so appreciate your pointers on different techniques.

@kwongphotography Thanks for your thoughts and continued support on the brightness and colors on my laptop. As for the Mpix processing, I made sure to indicate NOT to auto-correct anything on my shots. I actually was thrilled with the results and would use them again. I had a local print shop enlarge one of my winning photos that came out on the…[Read more]

@kwongphotography Thank you again for your recommendation and link, my friend. I’ll be sure to test the lens out on macro as well as portraits and small landscapes. I’ll also make sure I check out the glass for any flaws. It’s nice to know they have a 6-month warranty and a 14-day return policy with no questions asked if I’m not completely…[Read more]

@kwongphotography I tried calibrating again today but am confused about where to find the “brightness menu” for my display. I tried adjusting my display brightness up or down with my keyboard shortcuts F6 and F7, but then couldn’t do the contrast. Any result I end up with is less than the display setting I already have. I will mention that my…[Read more]

After discussing options with my spouse, I’m going to spring for the Canon 100mm f/2.8 EF USM macro lens from the link Ken kindly provided. I’ve been wanting a dedicated macro lens for a long time. This is a terrific deal I simply can’t pass up (retail for a new one is $1,299!). A big thank you to Ken 😀 @kwongphotography! I have two questions.…[Read more]

@kwongphotography Wow, thanks for this additional info specific to my Canon EOS. Good to know! Now my head is really swimming. I may just need to find my extender tubes to give them a go).

@kwongphotography That’s good to know! With autofocus, it seemed the auto was having a hard time making up its mind and kept popping out of focus. If I can find my extension tubes, I’ll try manual focus. Thanks for the tip!

@kwongphotography I went to San Diego State my first year of college and also lived in Tustin for awhile attending Saddleback College in Mission Viejo before moving out of state. When I was growing up in Riverside, my family went on extended camping trips to major cities, national and state parks up and down California as well as into Oregon,…[Read more]

@kwongphotography This is all great information, thank you, my friend! I had not idea about the detail involved at this level. Interesting that you mention gaming. @kwongphotography I am so sorry to learn there were times you did not feel welcome in Texas. Thank you @kwongphotography. I don’t know which one I created, I don’t recall giving it a name. I’ll try both to see which one looks better. I’ll look into X-Rite/Calibrite and Datacolor as you suggest. My spouse used to rep photographers and is pretty savvy about hardware, he selected my laptop and also Canon 90D for having excellent graphics and…[Read more]
