At best, then, the term is used as click-bait. Or, in my case, click-aversion. A shame when there are so many other terms to use to advance the intent and even to lead folks away from the association that word bears.

You talented being perpetually indulging our home with your versatile craft… Damns this shot is good, full of symmetry while also full of life. Impossible to ignore is the human figure in the frame, and maybe a right time for invoking the ghost of our friend Roland Barthes with the whole punctum thing don’t you think @martye?

The “Beauty of Everyday Life” Photo Contest
Capturing the beauty of everyday life is a priceless thing and it is one that helps the photographer to capture even the most ordinary moments of everyday life in a very beautiful and artistic way. This could b…[Read more] -

Last week, Diane called for captures depicting unseen beauty. Many frames were submitted and they all shared that gaze that makes photography so unique; that curious-minded quality holds together the peculiar aesthetic we all are familiar with when it comes to showcasing details and moments from the everyday life.

At their own, these objects…[Read more]

Gotta be honest, this one was a bit challenging to decode; how exactly does the refined ingredient comes into play with perspective? Framing and composition are the basic aesthetics holding together a compelling photograph. Now refinement, that comes from unconventionality, from breaking the rules and visually layering the narrative of the story…[Read more]

Thanks for your kind words, @patrickw-2! And I really appreciate you mentioning the rock in the first shot. The cliffs were magnificent with water actively dripping down the walls in some places, and some stretches were covered with bright green moss. Here are a few more shots for you to get a closer up idea of the minerals, the cliffs were…[Read more]

@patrickw-2 I think that is the one caveat I would make. A mobile phone makes you really think about composition and move to get it (digital zoom is not great). So I really walk around.
But other than that…

Gotta love a clean caricaturesque portrait! With just a slight squint of the eyes, the pareidolia becomes evident and the whole composition makes sense. Great choose of tonal treatment as well @patrickw-2 , surely you’re shot will make us smile throughout the entire week.

@patrickw-2 I used to shoot for a magazine called Rodeo News, and then did a year as official Photographer for the Wyoming Rodeo Association. So I have some connections in that area. The various Organizations will take freelance photos if they know you. I haven’t submitted anything for a couple of years, but ran into and old acquaintance at this…[Read more]

@patrickw-2 I think this is a very effective black-and-white. The bright lights really pull your eye along the leading lines all the way up the platform. I’d say the only thing you could improve here is to have someone 2/3 of the way up the platform waiting for a train in silhouette. But even as it is, it’s a very effective image.

@reyers, @dahliaambrose, @federicoalegria @patrickw-2 If/when you come to Portland, Maine, we will go out to dinner here on the waterfront in this floating restaurant. This is a little history behind the restaurant – a former car ferry in it’s “first life”. Pricey but a unique experience.

@patrickw-2, thanks for the feedback. I agree with your assessment. But I find myself stuck. I’m at this weird crossroads of artistic and scientific and I don’t have a map. I’ve purchased a few books and found a few YouTubers with some information, but I can’t find that one resource that will speak to me, and guide me, on my journey to the next…[Read more]

Layered yet flat, a sufficient representation of the complex weave holding the urban realm in current times. By itself, this moment is already perfect; then colour takes it above and beyond… Many great images came close to grabbing my attention the most, but that striking hues of cool tones simply stood out from the crowd, thanks @patrickw-2 …[Read more]
