Thank you both very much.
@tobiepsg Sorry it took so long to get back to you, we had a death in the family. I appreciate the work you did thank you. I have learned from your work, that cleaning up small things can make a big difference. I will have to get photoshop. It didn’t distort your photo. When I use Windows Live Photo Gallery it takes me a while to do simple things and will distort my photo . Thank you again for your hard work and teaching me so much.
@tobiepsg Yes, I would love to see your work! Thank you for the advice and offer. Thanks for the info on exif data. I’ll check it out after dinner đŸ™‚
@tommartin Thank you, I’ve been wondering about the law being misread. I wondered about people who take vacation pictures not concentrating on the people in the scene, but only concentrating on the moment. I’m the type who gets fully involved with the photo and tend to block out everything else. I just didn’t want to rock the boat. I agree with you and @tobiepsg common sense and etiquette go along way.
@tobiepsg I will rework the first photo and post it here when I’m done. That bright orange traffic sign is giving me a fit. I need to get a real photo editing program, any suggestions?
@tommartin and tobiepsg I live in Georgia. Several years ago I was taken to small claims court over photographs my minor son and I took. The Judge and DA both found us innocent of any crimes, but versed us well on the law and we were told due to Georgia law we could not take photos of people or with people in them without a signed release form. I’m in Georgia, God knows I love my state, but they tend to have problems interpreting law.
@tobiepsg I’m using a FujiFilm FinePix S4800
@tommartin Thank you for taking the time to comment.Up to this point I’ve been across the street at a second story window. I will plan to go a day that I can be on ground level and see what I can come up with. . The college and surrounding buildings offer plenty of practice. Several of the buildings are close to 100 years old.
I try not to photograph people, my state requires a signed release form if you do, but I will work on finding a dedicated focal point or point of interest.
@falx Yes, it’s a place great for practice because I can visit often đŸ™‚ Should I find something to use as a focal point and allow the school to be in the background instead of trying to make it my focal point? Thank you for your advice, it gives me things to practice on and goals to strive for.
@falx the building as a whole, the plants and the trees. The building as a whole reminds me of buildings on old post cards when color was first introduced. I would love to go up to the road as it first starts and get a picture where the gate is centered, but it’s so massive it’s hard to get a good photo without catching students, the power lines, traffic and road signs Maybe when I get more experience I can accomplish it. .My main objective is catching the essence of the buildings age, beauty and architecture. I wanted the old time feel of an older time.
@el-dub I will remove the fence post, but can only try to remove the vehicle. I use Windows Live Photo Gallery for editing and on big items it tends to distort the photo. Thank you for pointing these out and bettering my photo.
@tobiepsg Thank you! I’ll set it up on my camera until I get use to the settings. I’m reading everything I can set my eyes on for aperture, ISO and shutter speeds. Thanks to pics I’ve reviewed on this site and adding the info I am learning. Thanks to this site I am experimenting with settings now, where as before I only used the auto settings.
I guess since I can’t get a review I’ll review my own work.
1: Remember in the future to write down your aperture,ISO and shutter speeds. This will make for a better picture in the future.2:If you take a picture through a window glare is an issue. It distorted the bottom of your photo.
I like how you captured the history and old feel of the building in a modern world.
work on the window glare and you’ve got it made.
I know you want advice, but you can’t improve on perfection. The colors are crisp and clean. The photo is balanced well and your subjects sizes are right or in proportion to the frame. Beautiful!
Perfect timing! The Owl is beautiful and I like the moss in the trees. Great Job!
Wow! I can see this hanging on a wall. It is just breathtaking. I like how you captured the snow on the trees and the colors are gorgeous. I know I’m supposed to critique your work, but I have nothing constructive to add.
I’m new to photography so take my comments with a grain of salt. This is not a professional opinion, but a personal opinion. The photo would have been great with two different options. First option:Everything in the foreground should have been crisp and clear while blurring the background behind the main subject flower.
Second option: You could have cropped more making the subject flower crisper while having most of the back ground blurred making your subject flower larger drawing the eye to it first.
I like the subject matter very much and with a little tweaking would be breath taking.
You need to add an e to your title đŸ™‚ The photo would make a great identifier for this species. I’m jealous, I can only catch them on my feeder. You have been able to catch one on a plant. I wish I could do you a better service of critiquing, but I don’t have any suggestions to make it better. I’m just a beginner myself. My eye is caught by the subject alone and nothing distracts me from this.

February 16, 2014 at 11:08 am in reply to: Shark Tank Etiquette (Please read this first) (UPDATED May 23, 2019) #122773Shark Tank does work and little things do matter! I submitted a photo for review and was given a very good critique. I went back with my notes, yes I write down each piece of advice whether I agree or not. I blow up my photo and apply each critique and see what I come up with. I was told the road signs, electrical lines, and something going on at the right (which was glare caused from a window.) distracted from my subject. All little things that ruined my photo. I went back took another photo of the same subject and then come home and removed the power lines and if I do say so myself came up with a very good photo. I couldn’t have done this without shark tank and that honest reviewer, thank you very much to all of those who make shark tank possible and a great place for me to learn.
