Allows Edits? YesTaken on a GX8 – f/7.1, ISO500, 1/60th
Edited in Lightroom. Not happy with the composition, but not sure why.

May be because of the background is too busy/too bright?

Allows Edits? YesMaybe what you are feeling could be explain from the tonal range in the frame. If you look closer, you’ll see that there’s no much contrast between the stem and the background, which makes sense due to both being green.

Allows Edits? YesImprovement or too contrived?
There is a full 2 stops difference here so it’s a lot further than I would usually push my dodging and burning.

Allows Edits? YesThat’s one of the most fascinating stuff I find about analogue photographs, dodging and burning was always expanded into oblivion. I once heard of someone pulling like 7 stops from a slow ASA negative (maybe 125) by developing it as if it was ASA 1600 or something like that!

Allows Edits? YesYeah I used to do that years ago in the dark room. It was fun, but it was a very lonely process as I would be in the dark room until 2am by myself usually. Improving print by print by print. Cutting out bits of cardboard to dodge. TBH, I don’t miss it much. Much prefer LR.

the tones are too similar in the first. it needs more tonal separation. the second one is better, the tones and the dof define the subject.

too much blurry stuff for me. Maybe a closer crop on the subject?

Allows Edits? YesThe background is too busy and with the main player placed far off the center the whole thing is confusing to my eye. Diane Bloomfield is the queen of dead plants in alternative photography https://www.instagram.com/dhbloomfieldphoto_dinahlee/?hl=en
She uses simple backgrounds and focuses not only on the plant or flower itself but also on its form…
