Our black and white dog, made for black and white.

I like the idea, but for me it’s hard to tell this was a barn. I know people advise to fill the frame, but I wonder if a little more distance/surrounding context would help to establish what this is?
A reminder that not everyone gets to come in out of the snow…
I like the waterfall itself (including the movement, as you note), and the perspective showing the river beyond. The sky, to me, has enough clouds to provide some interest. The rest of the scene, however, seems a little too dark, so there’s not much to see besides the waterfall; I’d consider increasing the exposure for the shadows and midtones.

November 22, 2019 at 1:23 pm in reply to: Which is better for this image; landscape or Portrait? #425771I agree that portrait does a better job of displaying the waterfall. You might consider cropping off some of the bottom, maybe slightly below the bottom of the rocks on the right; that seems largely like dead space.

Thanks, both of you. I followed Kent DuFault’s suggestion of changing the blue helmet and jacket to red.
I was struck by the bird’s beauty. The image of eating baby turtles isn’t quite as beautiful.
Crested Caracara
I’m guessing fishing or boating, with fishing seeming more likely (since I don’t see a boat). It works for me, and I like the background.
I think it will help to bring out the river a little. It seems too dark, and could have the blue strengthened.
Monotone might work better if I want to make this spooky, but duotone seems better for showing aging and deterioration.
If you deleted the bar going through the man’s head, and perhaps also the vertical bar on the left, then you might create an image of two “animals,” each in their own cell.
