@karamen I don’t use my speedlight much (because I’m lazy!), specially externally. But – sometimes if one wants to take extraordinary pics then you simply have no coice.
I saw this and then thought of your post (unfortunately it does not explain in detail how it was done but I think…[Read more]

@jerryj13 The ST is a beautiful thing.
It’s always hard to hear something negative about something you put forward but the as the rule is ‘only negative comments’ (in practice this means at least one suggestion for improvement, can include some gushing) there’s no reason to feel put out.
Since everyone can expect to hear something negative…[Read more]

My Sinar F2 4×5 is all manual all of the time. I shoot the DSLR’s in manual most of the time but I will slip it into shutter priority if the light is wonky or I need shoot fast and maintain a specific f stop.
I have a little Voightlander Prominent rangefinder loaded with Ilford Pan F Plus 50 sitting on my desk right now. That little sucker will…[Read more]

@driverv: You bring up a good point about more viewers showing an interest when there is a person in a photo. And it doesn’t even have to be a good photo. But I generally resist the temptation. I like to photograph the effects humans have on the landscape, on life, without adding them to the image. They are there and not there.
@tobiepsg: You…[Read more]

You might consider offering to be a second shooter for the pro if you’d like to practice those skills.
It really kind of a crazy assignment – get a couple hundred good photos in the space a of a few hours, without much control over the situation and with a sizable audience.
A friend of mine’s uncle is a commercial photographer…[Read more]

@michael-lloyd, I was actually trying to draw attention to the hands, but the shadows defeated me here. It turns out that the hands and rose are at the same distance. If I’d tried this shot 10 minutes earlier, when the first was taken, it might have worked out better (the light on the hands would have been softer, the rose would have been in…[Read more]

Thank you so much @caimi, @tobiepsg, and @driverv!! Believe it or not, the flowers are almost gone, and this was taken just a few days ago. The honeysuckle should bloom again later in Summer. Although the bird is still visiting, I am too busy to do any set-up! I have a canon 430EX speed light, but I am still trying to learn how to use it. It’s a…[Read more]

You’re probably right-so I’ve played a little with cropping to decrease the black.

@admin I agree that a photographer has 1 second to capture the viewers attention, but as a street photographer you sometimes have less than a second to capture your shot. I think you are a bit harsh in judging this composition. It isn’t a portrait, or a studio shot. To suggest that @shreekant-pattar climb on a (non existent) box or ladder, or…[Read more]
