Thanks @jonathantimar. I did feel the first image looked a little flat maybe because i lowered the contrast more than necessary?
So you mean instead of f-4.5 i should lower down to 2.5 or something? The photo was taken in a casual setting so did not care much about the choice, but i feel i should be more careful about these issues for better…[Read more] -

I agree with @jonathantimar. Nothing needs to change – the flickr image is stunning. I agree with you in getting your image as close as possible to the actual scene in this case. Why would you want to PS out something that is an integral part of the scene? Leave it just like it is!Check It Out

Thanks everyone. Blown out areas seem to be messing me up a lot! How do I avoid it? What filters should I be looking at? I have a Canon XTi and most commonly shoot with the 18-55mm lens. I also have a 15mm fisheye that I like to use. And how much blow out can be fixed in Light room or PSE?
@jonathantimar, yes, it’s in JPEG because I am a little…[Read more]

@jonathantimar : It was taken under mid-day sun sure and so the harsh shadows and flat colour.
Are you sure about the halo artifacts? I tried on two different monitors but don’t see any. Has it got anything to do with colour settings on computer monitors?
It will be helpful if you could tell why you think it is a terrible composition.…[Read more]

Relax, @jonathantimar.
I enjoy poking sticks at barking dogs. Its my hobby and I’m better at it than I am at photography, which doesn’t say much for either.
Did you drown the kittens, by the way? Now that would be worth reporting! You might upset a few people but you’d have me fro a friend forever; even if you didn’t want me as a friend.

Thanks @raviputcha @sabb @nikon-nut and @jonathantimar . I definitely feel the same way but needed objective opinions on this. I wanted to possibly enter one of these into a local contest held by our town. I love the black and white one but feel that people seem to like color photographs more in general.
Thank you for your…[Read more]

Hey, @jonathantimar, got your nose out of joint a bit, have you?
I was only thinking the same thing. Tiresome is right. I was only thinking the other day ” who the fuck is this @jonathantimar character? Seems like he’s the knower of all things photography and has deemed himself The Critic God. “. I often talk to myself when I think.
Now he…[Read more] -

You had enough stickies on the first shot @jonathantimar. More than my fridge has. Don’t you trust anyone?
The bear is an improvement, definitely. Its all a bit overcooked, judging by the silver lining on the mountains. You might have pressed the sharpen button a bit too long as well. Its a standard shot of a nice place. Good for the album but…[Read more] -

did I mention how the beautiful pattern of the bark of the tree in the foreground complements the patterns on the snake? you couldn’t have got it better than this. you could get the other tree out like @jonathantimar suggested and there you have a wonderful image.

I tend to agree with you about how some images can allow the viewer to wander and some have a direct focal point. I believe I ever did this and that is why I posted to get your opinions. Sometimes I have way to much coffee before I start my PP. Although I am tempted to try Nik software because of the great things I have heard about it. My only…[Read more]

Yes, I agree with @jonathantimar about everything, with the exception of the lips; I also would have brought them out a bit, as I think they should be shown rather than letting them disappear into shadow. I will echo others and also say that your work is quite stunning, especially for someone new!

I’m getting to be lazy on my comments by coming in late but I agree with @jonathantimar on this one. Here where I live in Finland, it’s literally wall to wall boreal forest right down to the edge of either coast or lake edge and you get a lot of this problem with water and sky creating blown highlights through the foliage. It’s a difficult…[Read more]

Pretty much disagree with @caimi and agree with @jonathantimar on this one.
I think @raviputcha is right about the distracting lights, however – I wouldn’t lose them – I would simply dim them in comparison to the main person (and maybe brighten him up a bit).
There is certainly something to work with in this shot.
