Thanks! @yumerena π
Hey everyone π Thanks for all your advice, this is just a quick edit from my phone ( I will do a better quality one later) but I think this is the general idea that everyone was getting at. I’ll tweak it a little more later. @Yumarena @ArthurR4 @Pinotguy. @LightStalking I did get rid of the lense flare, but for some reason it won’t upload that version! @Lunac73 it is indeed a Butcher Bird, thanks for pointing that out! π

Hi everyone, thanks for all your helpful suggestions, sorry I’ve been so long in uploading this photo! This is what I came up with when I went out and had another go at it. The light was a little different that day so it’s not exactly the same as the original. I put a person in the gap because it was the most viable option, sorry to those who wanted small farm machinery! I like how it turned out so thanks for all your suggestions! What do you think?

Hi @ashjob! Thanks for your comments π I see where you’re coming from, traditionally this photo would be in portrait but I guess I’m breaking the rules! The main reason it’s in portrait mode is because I wanted to fit the whole tree in and as previously mentioned I couldn’t move back any further to achieve that. I did take some landscape photos but felt they lacked context compared to this one π However I will definitely be going back to this spot to try out all the suggestions I’ve received.
It’s funny that no one else picked up on the photo being in portrait, well done! And don’t worry, you won’t get in trouble here for finding issues, the images here are asking for construction criticism! If we wanted people to say they love our photos we’d put them somewhere else.

(Btw can I just say I love your photo π @annehong)
I guess it boils down to personal taste! Thank you everyone for your helpful comments π @pkrohn, @yumarena, @sengupta, here is the updated version, cropped to hide that annoying leaf, one in black and white and one in colour. @pkrohn, unfortunately I can’t make the shades of black less strong without making the water droplets on the grass stand out less, but I think it looks nice in B&W too π Thanks everyone!
Hi @gordonjames, thanks very much for those good points, I think I will try it both ways and see how it turns out! Your comments are invaluable! When I have managed to take another photo I will post it so you can see how well your suggestions turned out π
Hi again π @yumarena, thanks for giving me some good ideas here, I agree the blue colours in the sky seem to be the odd factor out, I will see what I can do about it π
@pkrohn, Thanks for your encouragement! I think in the view of comments made here I will try cropping out that distracting leaf in the corner! If the colours in the background are also distracting would you recommend putting it in black and white? I thought that the colours were a nice part of the picture but I’m willing to try any suggestions to improve! Thanks π
@yumarena Thanks for your comments π I agree a tripod would have improved this photo but at the time I didn’t have that option, if I were to be in a similar position again I would defenitly try to bring along a tripod!
Haha that would be great @sengupta, but there was a huge shed behind me that stopped me from doing that! I agree I would have liked to do that though π
Thanks for your comments @sengupta, I like the second one best too, but I was worried it might appear too edited. Can I just clarify, do you think I should crop it so that the leaf in the corner is not visible? (I hadn’t noticed that distracting element so thanks for pointing it out!).
Thanks, @gordonjames, for pointing out those essential flaws, I was so wrapped up in what I could see that was good in the photo that I missed out on those important points you brought out!!!
There is not a lot I can do to improve this photo, but if I were to take the photo again, which I easily can, do you think it would be good to place a person in that gap as the thing your eye is drawn to? This seems to me to be the most logical action, but what do you think? They would be in silhouette too.@lukas, Thank you very much for your encouraging comments! You make some very important points as to editing to make this photo of better quality that I will without doubt follow through on. Thank you very much for taking the time to critique my photo!
I am not a professional by any means but looking at this photo it seems to me that there is a lack of main focus. The photo I understand is meant to tell the story of these people coming to pray, but everyone is the same size and my eye can’t find anything to focus on. Maybe pulling our focus into one person or one element of the photo would have taken a better photo.
That said I like the subject matter and the children and bright colours, it shows a sense of community coming together.@haneshsree I see your point, maybe it would help if the tree was a little closer to the fence! But if I went and took the shot again I would try to change the angle to fix this problem, thanks for your advice! π
Here is a link to the edited photo, http://www.lightstalking.us/members/zeephototaker/album/picture/24450/
I was able to make the background a little less dark and leave the wires distinct but because it was a foggy day the sky was basically white anyway so with my editing tools I couldn’t change that, so to get around the distracting light corners I cropped the picture into a square.
I hope you think it is better with these changes!
@admin, @aarongeis, @nanyar
Thank you @aarongeis and @admin, I tried what you said and it worked much better!
Thanks too for a nice first dip in the shark tank!
