It has been a while since I posted anything of the page. Trying to improve my skills in not only in camera but editing as well. Seaming to still struggle at times but ever click of the shutter I am hoping to improve. Here is the latest BIF the pheasants will bunch up in the cold and snow. Eating gravel along the road so it makes for some nice shots at times. This is cropped by half or a bit less.

No Achievements Yet!
I’d say that’s pretty darn good. I especially like the details and near translucent light on the wings.

Allows Edits? YesLooks like your on your way, I usually take my best guess on where they will end up focus wise, lock it in manual, and shoot in burst mode, the erratic way a pheasant flies makes it tough to get something tac sharp, you got pretty close here.

Allows Edits? YesI don’t know how many folks have seen a pheasant launch, its kind of like strapping a stuffed animal to a paint shaker, not a single part of the bird isn’t in vertical and horizontal motion at the same time.

Wonderful image! Look at the detail in the wings and the position of the tail!
A couple of things you might try…..without touching the bird. Adjusting the light of the background . First try is lightening the background. Next try is darkening the background which seems to help bring out the colors of the bird. And, a curves adjustment of the reds, increasing the reds made the red around the beak redder and also effected the color of the background grass. So, in post production just experiment with color.

PS I like what the lighter version does to the snow and especially the wings. In the darker image I like what is does to the darker body of the bird, but not to the snow. So another option would be to dodge the wings and burn the body, or keep the red curves effect out of the wings just effecting the body and red head and then dodge or whiten the snow.
Again great job of stopping the bird in flight. You really do not have to do anything to your image.

The darker is what I did the first time around but seems like I lost the eyes in it. Thanks for the input

Terrific shot. Like how the wings and tail are both in a downward position. A mid-air dance routine. 🙂

Allows Edits? YesThis is a great photo and I love how you have captured the action and details in the photo. If there is anything that you can improve, it could be to leave some space on the right, in the direction that the bird is flying 🙂

Were you using the R5’s animal eye tracking Tim? ISO noise is pretty easy to deal with so maybe push up to 1/2000 or 1/2500 as the head looks like it has some motion blur. The blur in the wings is a plus for me as it shows movement but the head needs to be crisp IMHO. Unlike Robert I would let the R5 do it’s focus magic but I would definitely spray as he suggests which I’m pretty sure you did. Good job on this one.

I had it on eye tracking and electronic shutter. I could be my unsteady hand I usually shot with a tripod. I have about 30 shots of this bird. Maybe go through them and see if one is a bit better.
Thanks for the input
