Federico’s post re. competitions is to blame for this one.
Let’s post photos that won you a (paid or not, recent or not) contest.
This one won me $50 on a competition by Amy Renfrey a few years ago. The kit was from a friend – she wanted to give it away but I gave it back as I was not sure what to do with it. Perhaps I should have kept it?:

A small new win… This shot was chosen last week for the weekly contest titled, “Apps Uncovered” held over at iphonegraphy.com. The theme was patterns and textures.
An old repeat winner… This shot has won a number of things over the years. I took it back in the 1990s and colorized it in Photoshop. At the time I was the first one to do that and publish it nationally within the United States. It was selected to be published in the photography section of a graphic design magazine called, Communication Arts. That was a big win for me, because that magazine was seen as the Holy Grail for those that I was trying to woo as clients.

Now who would have thought to even have taken that 1st shot, Kent! It just shows – open eyes, thoughts out of the box and wha-la!
The 2nd one I can fully understand winning various rewards! It shouts ‘classic water painting’ – well done!

Kent, what is interesting, on your first photograph, about two years ago, I was waiting for an order in Lowe’s and started photographing the shopping cart. This moved onto the moving supplies, and I came out with an image quite similar to yours. The I was in some of the bins, photographing all sorts of things, screws, nails, duct tape. It is so interesting what images you can create in a Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Now your second photograph is undeniably stellar. The colours are vibrant, deep and rich. The patterns terrific. I really hope that you have the this winner hanging on your wall. This image is quite beautiful. Thank you.

Tobie, you need to be in product photography. This is a terrific image. The lighting is wonderful, and the positioning of the photographic equipment, manual and lantern, are perfect. Your textured background really makes this such an interesting image. Thank you.

I just may do that Kent. I just picked up a barely used Epson 1400 printer for free, I’m trying to restore the print head from the dead(hadn’t been used in 9+ years, dried up). That and a few waterfall pics, I hope my restore will work…

I might also suggest looking at levelframes.com. They will print your image from an uploaded digital file and frame it to museum quality. They are far less expensive than a frame shop. I’m totally impressed with their quality.

Not a win but just discovered that this one won me a Top 10 Class reward in Viewbug’s Image of the Month. Implying that it ended up in the top 10% out of 55,000 entries. The image was entered by the site’s curators and not by me. 🙂

I have won a few prizes in our local fall fair but I am not sure those count.
Work has been keeping me pretty busy lately, as I moved up to full time for a bit. And full time as a teacher/librarian actually means time and half. Sadly, that means less time for photography fun. But I have allowed myself to indulge in playing at Guru Shots and I recently made Guru! Here is my “winning” photo, which was actually a #1 Guru Pick:

Thanks Jasenka! I am lamenting the fact that we have had very little snow this year and no real good opportunities to shoot snowflakes. This one was from last winter. As for Guru Shots, it was maddening at times but seeing others’ photos can be great inspiration. And the contest themes sometimes guided what I shot – good for when you are in a “slump.”
-

Thanks so much, Gray! Sometimes with snowflakes, you need a little luck. Even when you set up everything perfectly, there is so much to go wrong. This one landed perfectly and made the shot easier.

Local photo club topic for the contest was “Trees”. I assumed alive or “dead”. These desiccated trees on the Namib Desert are hundreds of years old :). This shot was taken just before my camera DIED. Fortunately, I had a good point and shot for the rest of our self-drive adventure through Namibia.

Tobie, Namibia is one of those countries where the culture, the geology, the flora and animal life merge into one fantastic and life-changing experience. It is a photographer’s Nirvana.

ok, this got picked in a NYIP contest (no prize, recognition only) calling for tattoos. this was way back in 2003 and i was just thrilled to be picked as the winner. nothing since but really haven’t entered much other than on viewbug and guru but no wins on those either. was fun to take this walk down memory lane

Allows Edits? YesA friend entered this photo in a contest being held by the National Park Service unbeknownst to be, I got a email this AM saying it had been chosen to be used on the new National Website as a cover photo along with release forms, they said they had over a million submissions and mine was on of 22 chosen to represent the National Parks System. It wasn’t hard to figure out who the culprit was as he is always encouraging me to enter stuff like that, but I can’t hardly be upset with him.

Congratulations to everyone, all terrific shots! Here’s a shot of mine that took first place in my city’s annual competition for the Amateur Adult Fabulous Flora Division. The interesting thing to me about this shot was that in the original color version, the petals were bright yellow with red trips. I wasn’t thrilled with the color combination so converted it to monochrome. What a difference!
