All done today, was testing out various backgrounds, but got (over)enthused? with this one at a fairly early stage. All photos taken by myself as per usual. Am ready for any comments whatsoever, so *please* do not hold back (you may save me hours of time!)

Allows Edits? YesHi Jim , i always look in on your shots and mostly can’t add much to what others may have suggested on most occasions , you are a very creative with your ideas and here is another nice creative idea
For ST
There is two parts to the early edit that i don’t think work ( just personal opinion )
The vignette is looking very strong on my monitor , I also think the Airship cutting across the landscape could be placed in such a way that it maintains separation from the landscape you might need to reduce its overall size in the frame.
These are some thoughts Jim and i understand we all have our own way of seeing but the two things i mentioned are the two parts that jump out at me , hope that helps a little mate 🙂

Allows Edits? YesHi Jim, I agree with Patrick’s comments about the vignette and reducing the size of the airship. You could also try slightly blurring the background to see if it works 🙂

Allows Edits? YesYup, reducing the vignette will make it look more natural, I really like the idea and the overall manipulation, great piece of art mate!

Allows Edits? YesI agree with what the others said about the vignette. The image would look much more natural without this type of vignetting.

I agree the vignette is distracting Jim.
Besides that, the woman is in sharper focus than the ground she is standing on. The man in the boat is very bright considering the fact he is supposedly in the shadow of the balloon. In general the lighting direction and intensity of the subjects being composited need to be the same if it’s to be believable. The same is true for the state of focus of the subjects and the color cast of each. I like the concept. It’ll be interesting to see how you fine tune it

To pick up on Patrick’s comments about separation:Â the floating boat would stand out better if the open sky was its background.

Many thanks all six of you – great comments and suggestions!
I have decreased the size of the airship and moved it into the sky area. I also decided to increase the size of the lady and move her forward slightly.
Added Gaussian Blur to the man (0.8), the woman (0.4) and also the background (1.42 but with a gradient so that the sand area and lady etc not affected). Have also decreased the brightness of the woman by 13%.
Am thinking of changing the colour of the hull of the boat, say to a yellowy- orange?

Allows Edits? YesI like how you have placed the airship Jim , i read what Rob mentioned about shadows i agree , each part of the image is obviously shot under different lighting conditions and directions therefore maybe working on the overall light and were the shadows would naturally fall , personally if i was trying such a tricky manipulation i would try work out the overall light first Jim.
Good luck and enjoy the process mate can’t wait to she the finished image 🙂

Allows Edits? YesYes, I suppose changing the color of the boat will help it stand out. I’d try it!

There’s something about the lady that just doesn’t seem to be working for me Jim. I think it’s the way she’s facing. If she were looking at the balloon I think we would see more of a side view of her or even a bit of her back. There also doesn’t seem to be any connection with her and the ground i.e. any shadow. I still think you could do away with the vignette and the balloon could be brighter.

Allows Edits? YesI’m new to all of this, but I agree the vignette is a little too dark as well as not blended enough. Also find the scale of the man in the airship vs the woman appears not quite right…he seems way too small for being so close to the woman…too little experience to word this properly just seems a little off. Positive note…wonderful creativity! Thank you for sharing it is very inspirational to think one day I may venture into the area of composites.

As Rob mentions, the woman needs to be grounded… and maybe not quite so bright as the side of her facing us supposed to be on shadow side.
