Lenny, I like the first image better because of the elements in the bottom & center of the photo – the awning, sign with arrow, shadows of people, table tops, shadow of G_Y_M. And I like the black hole being more to the center of the photo, with the cracks leading out as spokes of a wheel. What does the grafitti say?

Beautiful, Frank. I’d like to see the boat more clearly, and agree the sun looks a bit blown out, which make the boat disappear. Below I cropped in at a 16:9 ratio to remove some of the sky and image to right of the stick Lenny mentioned. I darkened the boat to make a clearer silhoutte, and lightened the rocks slightly to suggest a bit o…[Read more]

Congrats, Pat! Great composition, and I love how the little dots of black eyeballs stand out – staring as us!

Lush and gorgeous against a solid black background, Diane. How did you light this?

Hi, Lenny, I really like this. Perhaps it’s my bad eyes, but I prefer areas of the image to be lighter – with differential lighting in different sections demarcated by the broken glass. With some highlights on elements such as table tops. Also, can you extend the margin on the left to include all of the graffitti?

Hi, Lenny. I love the textures in the straw and her fingers splayed against it. I like the rag because I imagine she uses it to mop her brow or protect part of her hand. I would try lightening the bottom part of her hand by reducing the shadows in that area of the image. I agree with Rob about trying to remove the letters on the t-shirt.

Hi, Jim. What could you overlap that fits with the objects? I really like the 3 objects, especially the 2 on the right. I could imagine them as high-rise residential or office towers in Singapore. (Never been there.) The lines & angles on these objects are strong and cool, so for me the swirly path over them undermines those lines/…[Read more]

Wow – great capture. The texture in the flying wave spray is amazing including the dirt and stone that are airborne.

Hi, Jim. I don’t think you need a person, but then I really like pure architectural images, such as the sharp details of the grillwork of this impressive staircase. I’ve cropped it even closer – see what you think. I suggest you even out the beige colorings of the back wall, and eliminate the No Exit sign, and eliminate the reflected fluor…[Read more]

Hi, Sarah. I love the rusty old water tank by the shed, and I like how the roof line disappears into the snowy sky.
Did the camera autoset to that ISO level? Also, did you crop this? It may benefit from more space on either side, depending on what’s there. I think this image looks lends itself to black and white. See what you think.…[Read more]

Thanks Diane, Tobie, Dahlia. This is in a state park, several miles from any buildings, so I have no idea who dropped this log here.
It was puddled with rain, so I could just imagine this all becoming peat, then coal, in coming centuries.

@falxy I love this – the original vertical. It’s a novel take on a still life image — pun intended and not intended…. 🙂 I especially like how the Mom’s tail is arcing over the babe’s tails – she’s “covering” them. Perhaps more contrast would work.

@sunnydayphotoworks Hi Levi. Too bad you don’t allow edits. I suggest you put a 16:9 crop on it and move it around to see what to include. I would make the left side of the image flush to the large bush, then cut out a lot of the foreground rock. For me the line of interest is the curving line the moves from mid-photo down to the left…[Read more]

Great shot, Peter. I love how you cut off the tips of the angles on the left, but show they in their reflections on the right. Artistic sense of imbalance!
