Hi, Valery. I think Frank is referring to Adobe Camera Raw, which comes with Photoshop I believe. I like Frank’s white balance adjustment – on my monitor the garlic now really pops.
But on my monitor, the copper color is reduced by the WB adjustment in Frank’s edit. Maybe try focused WB adjustments by item (pan vs garlic).

These are gorgeous, Jasenka. I’ve never seen a poppy pod before (last one). Very interesting.

I agree re ST being a great discussion. Robert, thanks for your comment about color and monitor differences. It made me realize I comment on color a lot, and I haven’t thought much about monitor differences. Plus, I noticed that my color edits on one of Valery’s images yesterday look quite different on my screen versus on the same screen…[Read more]

Very helpful story, Rich. Seems you adapted pretty quickly! Who could anticipate wind that shakes glass. I really like the first one with the clouds providing a different type of texture from the moon, which is dramatic and beautiful. I agree with Dahlia that these textures make it different from most moon shots.

Cool, Dave. I like the linear white & black shapes behind the glass against the rounded bottom of the glass. And the little white reflections in the glass – like mystical ice cubes.

I love this series, Tobie! I especially like the 3rd one with the neck twisted to get it down the throat, and the next one with the bit of “arm” flying mid-air. You were in the right place at the right moment.

For some reason, I can never see Rick’s images. The link is not “live” or me. Any suggestions?

Cool, Frank. The filter on the grasses gives a strong & contrasting 3 layers of textures . Makes this a very interesting composition.

Beautiful image, Valery. I like it a lot. My thought would be to crop in from the left some.
Below is how I think of chiaroscuro (very rough edit) – having more dramatic contrast between light and dark, e.g. very dramatic lights on a face a la Vermeer. I love that style.
But of course it’s great if you’re developing your own adaptation of…[Read more]

I really like this composition, Lenny – the flow from the basket on the bottom left up to the servilletas on the upper right. The only thing that bothered me was the saturation of the bread and cloth in the basket. First I selected both cloth and bread and desaturated slightly. Then I selected only the bread and tried to make the bread look…[Read more]

Beautiful, Gary! Great leading line, and I love the right red and yellow together!.
I experimented with different crops to emphasize the single yellow flower amidst the red. What worked best for me was to crop out the left, since the far background was a bit more distracting (house and trees) compared to the wider yellow band on the left. I…[Read more]

Hi, Jim. Great shot! The face and body look pretty crisp.
I’m no expert on setting shutter speed, but I wonder if you could have gone even higher than 1250. Re the white wall – you could just darken it so it doesn’t compete with the bird. I would also try cloning the post bit on the left side using some of the brown blur backg…[Read more]

You inspired me Dave @pentaxfan! Here I am a month ago after my brain PET scan, a procedure in a clinical trial for which I’d volunteered at Johns Hopkins hospital. (Clinical trials need volunteers.) The face mask was fitted to focus the scan correctly (I just moved it up to my head after.) and the arm bandage is where my arterial line was…[Read more]
