Thanks for the information @lightandshadow . I guess every platform has its own pace and I need to tune-in to it 😀

Thank you LandS. After looking at my crop with a more critical eye, I agree with more water in the foreground. As for the slower shutter speed, it never occurred to me as we were sailing past the iceberg. It’s something that I’ll have to keep in the back of my mind though. @lightandshadow

Totally agree with the enjoyment of revisiting the old images. Usually I find some of the images ‘tell me a different story’ than the original version. So when I do attempt another edit, I will push and pull the sliders to see what happens in the image. Quite often the result is a different image, sometimes there are only minor mo…[Read more]

I don’t think it’s overcooked @lightandshadow The image itself it nice.
Not sure how you got the saturation in the sky, but… if it was using a ‘gradient’ brought down from the top, I might be tempted to bring it down so it covers the water…
And as you allude to… bring down the exposure on the foreground.
This is a very quick edit to…[Read more]

I like that one @lightandshadow – you seem to be really leaning into that subject matter in style and I think it really shows.

@lightandshadow good point and useful perspective. In your version, it’s much clearer that the golden light in the trees is distracting. I think I’ll have a go with some selective masking and see what happens…
I do also like the effect of less foreground in your edit, in particular.

@lightandshadow I think I now owe you a street photo of the local signs to Midsomer Norton! (We’ve had our own less deadly mysteries over the last year: somebody/a group of somebodies keeps switching the road and street signs with other towns in the area, which is starting to get quite funny provided you aren’t lost.)

Thanks @lightandshadow, I do appreciate the feedback even if we’re not in Shark Tank. The square crop is a useful suggestion. It’s not usually one that comes to my mind because I tend to photography horses, which I find look better in rectangular crops.

@lightandshadow I love the Spanish moss drapes, and your bench inspired me! This is winter (mid-February) even though it’s warm….

As a fellow “Old Man” the Carbon Fiber Man Billy Camera Monopod / Walking stick / Cane has become a good friend which travels with me always. I added a quick release Manfroto camera mount and base to mine. There is something I’ve noticed over the years in this forum about how people improve and they seem to fall into two groups.
The first group is where I would put myself. That is the plodders who simply keep it day after day week after week month after month. Their improvement is slow and steady and deliberate and almost guaranteed.
The second…[Read more]

Thanks for your kind words for my images, @lightandshadow! I appreciate your detail on the color channel adjustments for blue and green and will see what adjustments I can make with PS Elements 12 for linear gradients.

This is another very solid shot @lightandshadow and I think you treatment with The stronger shadows works nicely. I also really like the framing kind of a classic composition for this type of shot. I’m not sure if it was intentional but the brightness of the reflections at the bottom of the photo kind of drags my eye there rather than towards the…[Read more]
