Allows Edits? YesLenny, I really like the combo of textures, and dramatic lighting. I didn’t change your lighting. Instead, for the upper right and left corners, I brought back detail into the image so the empty black spaces are reduced. In doing this I discovered the bits of burlap in the upper left, which I like.

Allows Edits? YesI’d like to hear about the lunacy, Beth! Are you in NY? I was lucky to view the total eclipse in a small quiet area in northern Maine. The lunacy I experienced was the miles of stopped traffic trying to get to the expressway afterwards!

Allows Edits? Yes@erik-fransman Fascinating experience with color, Erik. Thanks.
@martye Marty, this plant is very photogenic – I love it. My comment is that the green in the image is too saturated and has too much blue in it. (Of course, as Beth mentioned, it’s hard to know what each of us sees in our monitors.)April 12, 2024 at 6:15 pm in reply to: The solar eclipse tonight – please post yours here if you wish #524517Anne HornsbyParticipant- Instagram.com/anniemax6

Allows Edits? YesThanks, Elin. The “diamond ring” is my favorite, too.

Allows Edits? YesHaving trouble loading. Will do in separate entries.
No changes to these 3 images except to crop. 1st image: about 1/2 eclipse. 2nd image: the so-called “Diamond Ring” that occurs seconds before totality. It was like a light explosion. 3rd image: totality
I didn’t really have the right lenses. For 1st image, I used my 70-200 telephoto with solar filter, f/7, ISO 317, SS 320, spot metering. For 2nd and 3rd image, I used my “antique” lens for the totality, no solar filter [Nikon / Nikkor 180mm f/2.8 AI from 1980] – f/8, ISO 320, SS 250, spot metering.I decided at the last minute to travel from Maryland to northern Maine – so flew 2 hrs north to Portland, then drove 4 hrs north to rural route 11. All lodging was booked in the area so I slept in my car April 7 overnight (27 degrees F) in a rest area/snow on ground. My goal was to see the totality for 2 minutes 50 seconds. Spectacular eclipse in a really beautiful spot right on the East Penobscot River. I was thrilled with this experience. Niece (New York) and two friends (Pennsylvania) drove north to join me the morning of the 8th.

Allows Edits? YesI’ve also been away from LS. I always studied David’s images and found them so inspiring. My belated condolences to his family.

Allows Edits? YesThanks so much, Federico, Dahlia, Diane! I will reduce the vignette. I’m also trying to think about how to introduce a sense of motion.
I never built computers like you, Federico, but I have taken apart a number of broken ones to see what’s inside!

Allows Edits? YesI love the color version, Rob, with the sky. To make the surfer more visible, I think it works to just crop in from the left and bottom. The surfer is still small, but it gives the sense of vastness of the setting.

Allows Edits? YesI love the rich browns, Valery! Agree with others re lighting teapot. I think once you do that, the empty square of dark space above the chocolate won’t stand out as much.

Allows Edits? YesThe Google app tells me it’s Pink Beauty – Viburnum Nudum. Popular around here for the berries that start white, then go pink, then blue.

Allows Edits? YesPatrick, I think the aged hands in BW are fantastic. I’m thinking for background (or is it foreground) beneath the hands has too much pattern and is distracting from the hands and harmonica. Can you experiment with pushing it more into the background?
