We had a big deal cycle race here last Sunday. I found a safe place to shoot from but it was into the sun and the background had lots of city type distractions, cars and people, you know.

Hi Lenny, Loving the harsh light and shadows. I am wondering if you can slightly pull out details of the cyclists. Very slightly so there is a drama of slightly seeing them, but not completely 🙂

Dahlia, I tried that but didn’t care for it but it could be my processing.  I exposed for the highlights so not much to use in the darks.  I shot around 2,000 frames so I will look at the others with your suggestion in mind.  I was just so happy to be shooting people again!

              ….. only 2000 frames, Lenny, …….. so you weren’t really trying!  😉

Pretty cool idea and this harsh lighting works perfectly! I would maybe reduce the highlights just a little bit.

Cool image. I especially like the reflections on top of the heads. Only minor CC: remove small tiny black vertical line exactly on the left border just below dark part of the image.

Thanks for all the comments.  This was a really fun project!

Jim, it was too hot to be in the sun for long so, spray and prey. I just added a hug-o hard drive so I might as well fill it up, don’t you think?

Peter, Thanks for your comment! The reflections from their helmets is what initially appealed to me. I removed someone on the left but didn’t check the edge when I was done, good eye.

Jasenka, I pulled the highlights down just a tad in the foreground and like the way it looks. BTW, are the verticals OK? 😉

This works. Can slightly see details on the cyclists’ face. Love it Lenny 🙂

What is a hug-o hard drive?  Presumably a huge one, Lenny!  Is that Millennium speak?  I really essentially like this image, though feel that something crucial is missing to make it a world beater.  Would like just a touch of light on the bikers faces to *partially* illuminate their eyes and noses or whatever.  Unfortunately their shadows are to the front, so that was not going to happen.  My thoughts are — get out there at the next event and have another try with valuable hindsight/experience under your belt.
