Mother Nature Encounters a Cemetery

I continue to be intrigued by monochrome shots. How does this one grab you?

Because of an abundance of gray in a cemetery and the leafless tree offer nice blacks and interesting shapes, I think B&W is a good choice.  But, what is the story here?  What were you trying to convey other than just a shot of a graveyard.  Try to get more emotion into your image and with graves I think of sadness, gloom, spooky.  Yet maybe with light coming through darkness you could convey hope for the hereafter.   So, I just tried to bring in some mood with more contrast, and more darkness., with some light on the central gravestone.  This looks like a good place to photograph.  Really show us what you meant by your title.  Do not leave it up to us to figure out what you had in mind.  In other words, as you think of your composition, ry to lead us to what you are thinking or feeling, what emotions do you have and how can you best show that in your photo.  Another place to start would be to use this photo and see another image within it that you could concentrate on.  Get closer to the building or one of the stones.  What within the larger image grabs your attention?  I  like the shapes of those tree limbs.  Maybe you include them with a photo of a single grave.  What are the oldest dates on some of the stones. Could you get us thinking about a long ago past?  Is that all one family in that center plot? Hope you get what I mean!

I think I see what you mean, Frank. Thanks for your comments. Now I want to go back to the cemetery and try again. I’ll post it here soon.

I also don’t like the shadows from the two decorative elements on the peak of the roof. I’d like to try for a cloudy  day to eliminate those shadows. Great feedback as always, Frank. Thanks.

Hi Greg, I love how crisp this image is. I would probably reshoot this from many angles and come to the same place during the golden or blue hour for different lighting. I think the scene would look better with less light or with some directional light.

Yeah something closer towards Frank’s edits is where I would take this. Get that contrast up and the eyes snapping to the white statue.
