This is from a series of images that I captured of a gentleman making his own maple syrup in rural southern Ohio. Here he is pouring a bucket of raw sap into his evaporator that he made.

Here is another image taking the collected maple sap up the hill to the sugar shack. This man is in his late 70’s, and still able to haul the heavy 5 gallon buckets.

Yes, I agree. I was able to get into the building where they sold popcorn. There were a few posters but very deteriorated. This is located in a small community in Nevada. I got there just before sunrise and it was interesting to see the large number of birds roosting in the old screen.

Hi Deidra. Thanks for your comment. I love his work too and am very familiar with his exhibit next to the Seattle Space Needle! This shot was taken at a temporary display at the Phoenix Botanical Gardens in 2021, so unfortunately it is no longer there. It’s nice to meet a fellow fan!

Thanks you everyone. If you are familiar with artists, to me this looks like a scene a Wyeth (several Wyeths were known for their paintings) would paint. Quite a few Wyeth paintings were of Maine scenes. Just a little trivia….

Yes, it’s an adult Snowy Owl. You can tell by it’s coloring in that it is ‘all’ white. The Juvenile have brown spots in the feathers.

Conservation

This Sand Bank is part of the conservation work it is a huge sand area laid with pipes and sand then the visiting sand martins from africa have a place to call home until they return home when we reach our winter months.
About the reserve
Situated in West Belfast, beside the M1 motorway, this green oasis – a mosaic of species-rich meadows, reedbeds, ponds and hedgerows – is a huge asset for local people and wildlife, and provides great opportunities to enjoy nature in the city.Fourteen species of butterfly have been recorded here. In summer, look out for species such as orange-tip, speckled wood, meadow brown and small tortoiseshell fluttering over the wildflower meadows.
Stand at the edge of the reedbed to be astounded by the scratchy symphony of sedge warbler song. Other summer visitors include sand martin, swallow and swift which can be seen swooping low over the pond as they hoover up insects.
Crane your neck skywards to watch for peregrine falcon and buzzard hunting overhead. You might even spot a kingfisher whizzing across the M1 from the Blackstaff River to collect sticklebacks.
Mute swan, mallard, tufted duck, coot moorhen and little grebe can be seen at the pond all year round.
In autumn, the berry-laden hedgerows and trees host feeding flocks of fieldfare and redwing, all the way from Scandinavia. An influx of starlings before dusk is another spectacular sight.
Hardy breeds of cattle, such as Blue Greys, graze the site – essential for the management of the nature reserve.
Alongside a team of dedicated volunteers, we work on site to improve access, manage non-native species and control invasive scrub.
Bog Meadows is a surviving remnant of the floodplain of the River Blackstaff, formed by melting glaciers during the last Ice Age.
In 1987, the Friends of Bog Meadows decided to preserve this remaining area of wetland. In 1989, they teamed up with Ulster Wildlife to purchase the land and manage it for conservation, recreation and education.
Bog Meadows was the last recorded breeding site in the Belfast area for the corncrake, an extremely rare bird in Northern Ireland.

Rehabilitation… I believe this great grey owl lost it’s left eye due to an infection and now it’s a permanent resident, and ambassador at the local Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

Thank you, Patrick. The agency has taken in various bird species over the years as well as other animals. For a while they had a fox as one of their ambassadors. Although the hope is to be able to release the animals back into the wild, some of the injuries prevent that and the animal remains with them.
