• Tell us a little about yourself and your photography journey.
o Where do you live
Hi everybody, I live in Lithuania, in its capital Vilnius. It is a small country near the Baltic sea, in Europe.
o Hobbies & interests?
When I was younger, I spent more time in the countryside, surrounded by nature. At the time, I enjoyed reading books, fishing, watching movies. Although I didn’t have a camera then, I had a habit of framing fragments of the environment in my mind. It was relaxing process, like therapy.
o What got you interested in photography?
Therapy is the main reason why I started taking photos. About four years ago, when I was thirty-three, I was going through hard times and I really needed something to help me steer my thoughts. My girlfriend was studying photography and she encouraged me to try photography.
• What is the best advice you have received so far regarding photography?
Over the years, I have made sure that what you see in the photo is not necessarily seen by others. I always try to remember this before taking a picture and I think this is the best advice so far. It is also a challenge to strive to make the meaning in the photograph visible to others.
• What is your favourite subject to shoot & why? Do you have a favourite type of photography?
I usually photograph various objects, more often just things, still life, nature and rarely portraits, although for me it is a very beautiful and interesting, but at the same time sometimes complex genre.
I also like black and white photography. Its ability to highlight things that are hidden by color fascinates me.
• If you could only use one camera/lens combination for a year, which would you choose?
If I could use only one camera/lens combination for a year, I would choose Leica monochrom camera, with 28 mm lens.
• How would you describe your photographic journey to date?
My photographic journey is self-taught, but I’m trying to learn and get inspiration from looking at others’ photography.
• Is there a photographer that inspires you?
One of the most inspirational works at this time is by Wim K.Steffen ‘Cattle dealers in Cafe’ 1957.

I’m delighted to learn more about @aurikami & his photography. Thank you Dahlia for this great interview! I’m always fascinated by Aurimas’s posts that are always so thoughtful & sublime. He makes me want to find ways to make meaning & incorporate mystery through light against the dark in my own photography. I look forward to more peeks into his special world as with the B&W flower which is so stunning & thought-provoking.
